A public playtest for Tyr, a new multiplayer tank shooter developed by Stoke Games, is currently underway and will run until August 2nd. The studio is comprised of developers who previously worked on titles such as League of Legends, Valorant, StarCraft 2, and Destiny 2. Tyr places a significant emphasis on visibility and reconnaissance, with unseen opponents posing a considerable threat.
The game features tanks with distinct, color-coded armor profiles, requiring players to consider armor thickness and the penetration values of their weaponry. Shots are more effective when striking a target head-on rather than at an angle. While the game has a sci-fi aesthetic with colorful landscapes, its core mechanics revolve around tactical tank combat. Some tanks are capable of hovering and tilting to shoot into lower terrain.
Stealth plays a crucial role, with each tank possessing a maximum vision range and a detection radius displayed on the minimap. Tanks remain invisible until formally detected, at which point a HUD icon alerts players. Lighter tanks excel at sniping due to their lower detectability, while heavier tanks can utilize camouflage like bushes to approach enemies. Every tank is also equipped with a special ability, such as the deployment of a defensive wall.
Tyr is slated for an early access release later this year. The developers aim for a balance between strategic depth and accessible gameplay.
