Valheim's transition to version 1.0 has spurred a significant resurgence in its player base on Steam, with concurrent player numbers reaching their highest point in five years. The survival and sandbox game, developed by Iron Gate Studio, has attracted around 160,000 simultaneous players following its departure from early access, a figure not seen since April 2021.

Despite this substantial increase, the current player count has not yet matched the game's all-time peak. Valheim previously achieved a high of 502,387 concurrent players during its early access phase, a surge partly attributed to viral popularity and the prevailing circumstances of its initial launch period. The current player numbers, while impressive, represent a comeback rather than a new record.

This renewed interest coincides with Valheim's availability on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. The Steam player count no longer represents the game's entire active player base, as players on these consoles also contribute to the overall community. Further data on player engagement across all platforms is expected following the game's first full weekend since its 1.0 release.

The Valheim 1.0 update itself introduces extensive new content. Patch notes detail the addition of a new biome called the Deep North, over 40 new weapons, numerous craftable items, and graphical enhancements such as improved draw distances. These additions aim to provide a substantial experience for both returning and new players exploring the game's procedurally generated world.
