Iron Gate has announced that Valheim will transition from its early access state to a full 1.0 release on September 9, coinciding with a significant price adjustment. The game, currently priced at $20, will see a 50% increase to $30 at launch. This update will also introduce a new ice-themed biome known as the Deep North.

In a recent FAQ, the developers addressed community concerns regarding future content. While bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements will continue, the studio's response suggests that major content updates beyond what is planned for 1.0 are uncertain. "We will continue to improve the game with bugfixes and quality of life stuff, though for exactly how long the game will continue to receive updates is currently too soon to say," Iron Gate stated. "Likewise, it is too soon to say whether or not there will be more content added to the game in the future—but as always, we will be sure to announce any news on our channels!"

A point of contention for some players is the confirmation that an update for the ocean biome will not be included in the 1.0 release. This omission is particularly notable given that an ocean biome update was present on the game's initial roadmap and that the game may not receive further major content expansions after its full launch.

Version 1.0 will also incorporate Steam achievements. The new Deep North biome will be accessible with existing save files, though starting a new game is recommended for the optimal experience. Developers also noted that while some optimizations are included in the 1.0 update, significant improvements for large player-built structures are not expected, though further work on game performance is planned post-launch. These optimizations aim to reduce micro-stutters during zone loading and speed up the saving process, among other minor enhancements.

Valheim is currently available for $10 as part of the Steam Summer Sale, presenting an opportunity for interested players to purchase the game at a reduced price before the September increase.
