Valheim's recent 1.0 update has introduced a Grappling Hook, a new item designed to help players navigate the challenging Mistlands biome. This addition aims to mitigate the frequent deaths by fall damage that have plagued explorers of the foggy, mountainous region.
The key to acquiring the Grappling Hook lies in finding Hooks, which are located within the Infested Mines. These dungeons, found throughout the Mistlands, are described as bug-ridden and difficult to traverse. Players may need to explore multiple dungeons to locate a hidden stone door, often marked by glowing blue glyphs. Behind these doors, Hooks can be found within Dvergr Treasure Chests, alongside other valuable items like Black Cores. While a single Hook is sufficient for crafting, players may find stacks of three.
Crafting the Grappling Hook
Once Hooks are secured, the Grappling Hook can be crafted at the Black Forge. The required materials include:
- 10 Yggdrasil Wood, harvested from Mistlands trees.
- 10 Refined Eitr, created at the Eitr Refinery using Sap and Soft Tissue.
- 4 Mandibles, dropped by Seeker Soldiers.
- 1 Hook.
Players are advised to familiarize themselves with the Grappling Hook's mechanics in a safe area before relying on it in dangerous situations. The item features a delay on the initial left-click to load the hook, followed by an aiming and firing phase. The space key is used to reel the player in, while a right-click releases the hook. The current functionality does not support swinging; players will hang limply until reeled in, a trade-off that offers a significant advantage over succumbing to fall damage.
