Valve has announced that all current reservations for the Steam Machine will be fulfilled by the end of 2026. The company shared this update in a blog post, addressing the extensive reservation list for the console-PC hybrid, which launched approximately one month ago.
When the Steam Machine initially became available, Valve implemented a reservation system where accounts were randomly selected for either a reservation list or a waitlist. While the exact number of sign-ups remains undisclosed, Valve stated that the demand has been significant enough to require the remainder of the year to process all orders. The company noted that regional demand varies, with some areas already having their reservation lists completely fulfilled, and others seeing individuals move from the waitlist to the reservation list.
Earlier this year, Valve had anticipated potential difficulties in meeting demand for the Steam Machine due to an ongoing RAM crisis. Despite this, the device has seen strong performance in some markets, with the Steam Machine reportedly topping best-seller lists in certain regions.
In conjunction with the fulfillment update, Valve also released the CAD files for the Steam Machine's exterior, enabling users to design and 3D print custom skins and faceplates. Additionally, support for FSR 4.1 has been integrated into the experimental version of Proton, benefiting games that utilize this upscaling technology.
The Steam Machine's launch has been marked by several challenges. The aforementioned RAM crisis forced Valve to launch the mini-PC at a higher price point than originally planned. The company also had to revise its performance claims. Performance-wise, the Steam Machine is comparable to a base PlayStation 5, though it's possible to build a more powerful PC with SteamOS for a similar or slightly higher cost, albeit with a larger form factor.
