Vanillaware, the acclaimed studio behind titles like Odin Sphere, Dragon's Crown, and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, is interested in bringing more of its games to PC. However, the decision ultimately rests with the games' publishers, according to studio founder George Kamitani.
This desire for broader PC accessibility was shared by James Mielke, founder of the indie game festival BitSummit, who relayed Kamitani's sentiments via the social platform Bluesky. Mielke stated that when he inquired about the lack of PC ports for Vanillaware's back catalog, Kamitani responded that he "totally wants to" release them on PC, but that "it’s up to the publisher to finance the ports."
Kamitani indicated that if fans wish to see titles such as 13 Sentinels, Dragon's Crown, Unicorn Overlord, and Odin Sphere on PC, they should vocalize their interest. This clarification addresses previous confusion stemming from reports that suggested Vanillaware was uninterested in PC releases, an assertion Mielke has since refuted.
The recent announcement that Muramasa: The Demon Blade will receive a PC port marks a step in this direction. The future availability of other Vanillaware titles on PC appears to be contingent on sufficient fan engagement and publisher willingness to fund the necessary porting efforts. While direct publisher solicitation might not be advisable, expressing interest through more conventional channels could influence future porting decisions.
