Blizzard has announced a new real-time strategy campaign for Warcraft 3: Reforged, titled Forsaken Kingdom. This marks the first new Warcraft RTS campaign content since the 2003 expansion, The Frozen Throne. The DLC will delve into the events following Lordaeron's fall to Arthas and the subsequent establishment of the Forsaken faction within the Undercity.
Forsaken Kingdom is available today as paid downloadable content. Alongside the paid campaign, Blizzard has also released a free 3.0 update for Warcraft 3: Reforged. This update introduces visual enhancements and quality-of-life improvements, aiming to further refine the remaster's player experience. The current development efforts appear focused on rebuilding the reputation of Warcraft 3: Reforged, which launched in 2020 to a largely negative reception. In 2024, a significant 2.0 update was released as part of the franchise's 30th anniversary, addressing numerous player complaints that had persisted since the remaster's debut. Early reports suggested development challenges and potential budget cuts impacted the game's initial release, leading Blizzard to expand its refund policy at the time.
Earlier in 2024, Blizzard enabled players to access the classic version of Warcraft 3 directly through Battle.net without requiring the Warcraft 3: Reforged client to be launched. The Forsaken Kingdom campaign will be integrated into Warcraft 3: Reforged.
