Wardogs, the popular mass multiplayer FPS developed by Bulkhead, has quickly climbed the Steam charts since its early access launch in September 2026. While player numbers have reached impressive heights, with an all-time concurrent player peak of 428,666 on September 13, a growing segment of the community is focused on a seemingly minor gameplay detail: closing doors and gates.
The official Wardogs subreddit is populated with numerous posts from players frustrated by teammates who fail to secure Forward Operating Base (FOB) access points. These FOBs serve as crucial fortified hubs where teams can construct defenses and armaments. However, doors and gates, once opened, do not automatically close, leaving bases vulnerable to enemy incursions.
Redditor demonmit1 highlighted the issue on September 14, expressing concern over excessive gate construction. "If you're helping build a FOB, please… We only need one air locked gate for logistics," the user wrote. "No one closes them anyways, so adding more is not good. Stop it. If someone wants to leave the base, they can jump over a wall. They don't need to leave through a door they'll forget to close."
Other players have reported similar experiences. Novastar17 posted on September 12 about allies inadvertently allowing enemies into FOBs by leaving doors open, compromising building efforts. The lack of automatic closure has led to frustration, with some players suggesting potential solutions. User GOpencyprep proposed on August 23 that doors could be designed to auto-shut or that players who repeatedly forget should face in-game penalties.
The security implications are significant. While enemies cannot open these doors themselves, an open entryway provides an easy path for them to infiltrate and attack players operating within the FOB. This can be particularly detrimental when players are focused on constructing vital assets like mortar complexes or anti-air emplacements, as noted by Icy-Sock-2388 in a September 5 post detailing how open doors led to the loss of a meticulously built FOB.
Some discussions have included more severe, albeit humorous, reactions, with players jokingly threatening to fire negligent teammates into the sun or warning that leaving doors open could result in friendly fire incidents. The sentiment is clear: players want their FOBs secure.
Beyond the door dilemma, Wardogs also faced significant server queues upon its early access debut. Bulkhead has since released a hotfix intended to alleviate these wait times, though players may still encounter issues such as the WD-L014 Error Code.
