Deep Silver and King Art Games have announced a delay for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4, shifting its release from September 17 to December 3. This new date places the real-time strategy game just two weeks before the November 19 launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.

The delay aims to provide the development team with extra time to incorporate player feedback from community playtests, address bugs, improve performance, and enhance the overall player experience, according to game director Jan Theysen. He noted that while initial community responses have been positive, more time is needed for refinement.

This revised schedule also moves Dawn of War 4 away from an exceptionally crowded September, which was slated to feature releases such as Control Resonant, Marvel's Wolverine, and Silent Hill: Townfall, among others.

King Art Games is also adjusting the post-launch roadmap for Dawn of War 4. Major updates, including the Crusade Mode, Mission Editor, and map packs, are now scheduled for 2027. The Blood Ravens Story Prologue DLC is planned for spring, followed by the Aftermath campaign expansion in summer. At launch, the game will feature four playable factions: Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus, Necrons, and Orks.

This marks a significant transition for the Dawn of War series, as it is the first installment not to involve original developer Relic Entertainment. Relic previously helmed the 2004 original and its sequels in 2009 and 2017, with the earlier titles earning acclaim for their RTS gameplay and faithful Warhammer universe integration. However, Dawn of War 3 proved divisive, with players citing persistent bugs even years after release.

King Art Games is taking the lead on Dawn of War 4 after developing the well-received RTS Iron Harvest for publisher Deep Silver. The Warhammer universe continues to expand with numerous other projects in development, including an animated TV series from Amazon and Saber Interactive's Warhammer: Space Marine 3.
