Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 has been delayed by two-and-a-half months, with developer King Art Games now targeting a December 3 launch. Early access will be available from November 30 for those who purchase the Commander Edition.
This revised schedule moves the real-time strategy game out of a highly competitive September release window. Publishers often aim for this period to launch titles ahead of the major November releases, such as Grand Theft Auto VI. The original September 17 release date would have placed Dawn of War 4 alongside other significant games like Marvel's Wolverine and Silent Hill Townfall.
Jan Theysen, creative director for Dawn of War 4, stated that the additional development time will be used to further enhance the game. "As we approached the final stages of development, we saw an opportunity to further enhance Dawn of War 4 and deliver the quality of experience we've always envisioned," Theysen explained. "The additional time will allow us to continue optimising performance, resolving bugs, and applying further polish to ensure players have the best possible experience from day one."
The delay has also necessitated an update to the game's Year 1 post-launch content roadmap. Free content updates, originally slated to begin this year, will now commence in 2027. The initial offerings in early 2025 will include Crusade Mode and Map Pack 1. This will be followed by a second map pack and the Lord Ahmnok Last Stand Crusade in early spring. Subsequent additions include a third map pack and a mission editor, with a fourth map pack and the Guzcutta Last Stand Crusade arriving in early summer.
In addition to free content, two paid expansions are planned. A story prologue focusing on the Blood Ravens faction is scheduled for spring, with a larger campaign expansion, Aftermath, which introduces a new faction, set to release in summer.
