Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition appears to be heading to PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch 2. The updated version of the 2011 third-person shooter was briefly listed on the ESRB's website with mentions of PS5 and Switch 2 support, alongside its existing PC release.

The game originally launched for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in 2011, with a PC release followed by Xbox Series X and S and Xbox Game Pass in June of last year. Sega, which holds the rights to the original game developed by Relic Entertainment, is overseeing this release.

The Master Crafted Edition, developed by SneakyBox, features a 4K resolution, modernized controls, an updated interface, improved character models, and remastered audio, including over 100 new voice lines for the Orks. However, the edition faced criticism from players last summer. Concerns were raised about its high price point in relation to the changes made from the well-received Anniversary Edition, with many finding the usability worse. Coupled with difficulties in finding online matches, some players labeled the Master Crafted Edition a "cash grab."

In response to the backlash, Sega implemented an extended refund policy on Steam, offered a 50% discount for Anniversary Edition owners, and outlined a patch roadmap. Steam user reviews, initially "Mostly Negative" at launch, have since improved to "Mixed" a year later.

With updates ceasing in September of last year, the potential arrival of the game on new platforms may coincide with significant patch updates. This re-release news follows the successful launch of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 in 2024, with a Space Marine 3 already announced.
