Invoke Studios has released a lengthy gameplay reveal for its upcoming title, Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons, offering players a detailed look at combat, exploration, and traversal. The game, set to launch in 2027, is a single-player, third-person, open-world action-adventure that emphasizes creative use of magic.

The reveal introduces Kaatri, the warlock protagonist, and her patron, the witch queen Tasha. Players will utilize Kaatri's Warlock's Eye to perceive Raw Magic, a crucial element for discovering and enhancing spells. The game world is set in Darkon, a Domain of Dread taken from Dungeons & Dragons lore, which is depicted as an unstable environment threatened by Mists.

Exploration in Warlock appears to be a significant component, with players encouraged to remain vigilant and employ magic to navigate the world and uncover secrets. The Warlock's Eye guides players toward Raw Magic, but the application of this magic is left to the player's discretion, requiring attention to environmental cues. Kaatri's journey takes her to Crickshank, a settlement within Darkon with a hidden mystery that leads her underground into ossuary catacombs, where both dexterity and magic are used for rapid movement.

Combat encounters feature a variety of foes, including aberrations like the Death Kiss. Spells showcased include Tasha's Leash, a cantrip that allows players to manipulate objects in the environment to their advantage, such as pulling down columns onto enemies. Another demonstrated spell is Fey Switch, an advanced Warlock spell that enables Kaatri to instantly swap positions with a monster, providing a tactical escape to higher ground.

Familiar D&D spells are also present, with Eldritch Blast highlighted for its versatility. This cantrip serves as a reliable tool for ranged attacks, finishing off enemies, or maintaining offensive pressure during combat. The gameplay also demonstrates the integration of environmental elements, such as weather, into combat. In a misty field, Kaatri uses the Downpour Ritual to create puddles, then casts Witch Bolt, channeling electricity across the wet surfaces to damage enemies.

As a Pact of the Blade Warlock, Kaatri can conjure melee weapons, allowing for seamless transitions between magical and physical combat. The combat system is designed to facilitate chaining abilities, with the effects of one spell potentially setting up the next, depending on enemy types and the combat arena. Progression is tied to finding Strands of Magic, which fuel Kaatri's abilities throughout her journey.

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2027. The game aims to blend familiar D&D elements with an original narrative, making it accessible to both series veterans and newcomers. Fans can follow the game's official website and social media channels for updates.
