Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has indicated that Microsoft's upcoming Project Helix initiative will involve more than a singular console, suggesting a "great family of devices" is in development.

While Microsoft has remained largely secretive about its next-generation Xbox hardware, particularly amidst recent gaming branch layoffs, Sharma offered a glimpse into their strategy during an interview at gamescom 2026. When pressed about whether Project Helix would be a discless console, Sharma stated, "We're not sharing more on Helix, I know you had to ask it. But look, we've been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Helix, and we'll share more soon."

The implication of a "family of devices" echoes Microsoft's approach with the previous console generation, which saw the release of both the more powerful Xbox Series X with a disc drive and the all-digital Series S. Although it is not confirmed that Project Helix will follow a similar tiered release strategy, the wording suggests a potentially unconventional approach to next-gen hardware.

Sharma previously indicated a possible holiday 2027 release window for Project Helix. Earlier in the year, she also acknowledged that consumers may be unwilling to spend "thousands of dollars" on a new console generation, hinting at the exploration of "new business models."

Details regarding Project Helix and its associated hardware remain scarce. However, Sharma's comments suggest a move towards broader digital game offerings, with Microsoft planning to allow Xbox fans to digitize their video games. Further information on Project Helix and its "family of devices" is expected in the near future.
