Just days after its surprise announcement, a limited edition 40th anniversary The Legend of Zelda Switch 2 console is already appearing on eBay with price tags reaching as high as $985. Retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, and Target briefly offered pre-orders for the console at its elevated price of $520, but quickly sold out.
The special edition console features a black-and-gold dock, triangle motifs on the reverse of the device, and green-and-gold Joy-Cons. A matching case with a gold Triforce logo and a special edition Pro controller with black, gold, and green accents are also included in the package. The console is scheduled to release on October 29.
Scalpers have capitalized on the high demand and limited initial availability, listing the console on eBay for prices ranging from $700 to $985. Some listings even bundle the console with the forthcoming Ocarina of Time remake, despite Nintendo not including the game with the special edition hardware. The Ocarina of Time remake is set to release a week after the console, on November 6.
Commentators have advised against purchasing the consoles at these inflated prices, pointing out that the extra cost is purely for aesthetic additions and does not affect the console's performance. Nintendo has yet to open pre-orders on its own website for the special edition hardware and has not indicated production numbers, leading to concerns about scarcity driving up prices.
