ZA/UM has announced that the free Director's Cut update for its RPG Zero Parades: For Dead Spies will arrive on PC on October 1st. The update will introduce approximately 40,000 new words of content, alongside a host of other additions and refinements, coinciding with the game's console release.
The new narrative material includes expanded opportunities to interact with allies and handlers, new story paths, and deeper exploration of protagonist Hershel Wilk's psyche. A standout addition is a new scene described by ZA/UM where Hershel and an old friend, Ramses, find themselves "stoned out of their minds, behind the wheel of a hijacked tuk-tuk and seemingly unable to escape the Quisach Roundabout late at night."
Beyond this surreal encounter, the Director's Cut brings a completed English voice-over with re-recorded sections for improved consistency and audio quality. Players will also gain access to a new "Backstage Mode," offering a look into the game's development process. This mode allows exploration of earlier iterations of selected levels, showcasing how environments evolved throughout development, and includes cut content and developer commentary narrated by art director Kaspar Tamsalu.
Additional features in the update include new clothing options, new character portraits, and a photosensitivity mode. The developer also noted recent layoffs and staff at risk, citing Zero Parades' commercial performance as a factor in their need to downsize.
