Beast of Reincarnation opens with an introduction to Emma and Koo's combat capabilities within the expansive Ogouchi Buffer Zone, a region filled with secrets and enemies.
This guide serves as a walkthrough for the Prologue and Chapter One, focusing on the main objectives within the Ogouchi Buffer Zone. Players will learn to master Emma's hair-extending abilities and parry mechanics, while navigating the map to hunt down the Nushi responsible for the woods' destruction.
Difficulty Options
Beast of Reincarnation offers three difficulty settings: Story, Normal, and Hard. For players familiar with action RPGs or Soulslike games, Normal or Hard are recommended. The difficulty can be changed at any time, with Story mode being suitable for those new to the genre, though it may trivialize the game's combat encounters.
Prologue
The prologue introduces Emma, her moveset, and her canine companion Koo. Players will engage with mutated foes called Malefacts, learning to use Emma's Blade Arts and Koo's follow-up attacks. The sequence includes using a crossbow against flying enemies and a confrontation with Shidou before a narrative time jump.
Chapter One Objectives
Chapter One primarily takes place in the Ogouchi Buffer Zone and includes the following main objectives: Investigating the Village, The Foreman in the Subcity (Parts 1 & 2), Defeating Malefacts, Opening Doors, Defeating Golems, The Prowling Nushi, Toward the Nushi's Lair, Path to the Sealed Lair (Parts 1 & 2), and Returning to the Cleanse Walker.
Investigating the Village
Starting on the outskirts of a village, Emma receives her objective from Brad: to defeat a Nushi. Players will find their first Camp, where they can save progress, upgrade skills, and enhance equipment. Enemies respawn after resting at a Camp. The objective here is to find a Rusted Golem in a house, which will lead to finding the foreman of a subcity.
The Foreman in the Subcity (Part 1)
Upon exiting the house, Emma will face a bear Malefact, offering a chance to practice parrying. This is crucial for restoring Koo's Fluorescence Points (FP), which fuel his Bloom Arts. Koo's scent, indicated by colored trails (blue for far, red for close), guides the player north towards a ravine. Emma can use her hair to create a bridge to cross. After crossing, the environment changes due to Blight, introducing new enemies and objectives.
Defeating the Malefacts in your Path
Players will encounter deer and bear Malefacts, requiring parry timing for their attacks. Looting Malefact meat can replenish hunger, which affects HP regeneration. Returning to the Village by the Bridge Camp allows for leveling up. A ruined building offers a vantage point to engage three Malefacts below, including an Elite Enemy. Emma can use her hair to form a bridge and initiate stealth attacks, though these are less effective against the Elite Enemy.
The Foreman in the Subcity (Part 2)
North of the previous area, players will find an Onslaught Spirit Stone and a wheel to open an underground door to the subcity. After reaching the Subcity 01 Entrance Camp, Brad will provide further instructions.
Defeat the Golem(s) and Open Door
Several Golems patrol the subcity areas. Koo's scent can lead players to them, and grappling to higher points allows for aerial takedowns. One Golem guards an Electronic Brain, important for upgrading the Cleanse Walker. After defeating all Golems, a green door opens, leading to an Elite Enemy encounter.
Defeat the Door Golem
Before facing the Door Golem, players can find a locked Strongbox on a nearby wooden structure's roof, containing a Memory Chip for the Cleanse Walker. The Door Golem is a fast opponent with multi-hit combos; Koo's Hibanbana: Roots skill can help bind it for easier parrying. After defeating the Door Golem, players can find more loot and obtain the Zangetsu Bow from a Broken Golem, before engaging in a shooting sequence.
The Prowling Nushi
Leaving Subcity 01, Emma encounters the Nushi, Rangifer. Following it leads to the Cliff-Facing Tower Camp, near which is a Strongbox containing Chain Mail. Players can challenge Rangifer immediately or seek out Keeper Golems for exploration data, which might reveal useful information, such as the effectiveness of Fire Arrows against the boss. Rangifer, a Level 9 boss, attacks with charges, antler sweeps, and projectiles, all of which can be parried with precise timing. Fire Arrows and Koo's Higanbana: Seeds are effective against it. Upon defeat, players receive Blade Art: Sakura Storm.
Following the boss fight, players return to the Cleanse Walker (Bauera), a mobile base where they can interact with Brad for trading, bond with Koo, and use facilities like a shower. A flashback details Emma's past and how she met Koo, involving more Golem battles. After resting, players can depart from Bauera with the ability to fast travel back to it.
Toward the Nushi's Lair
The journey continues to Subcity 03. Near the entrance, a Strongbox holds Generator Devices for Bauera. Inside, players follow a scent trail to the Nushi's Lair: Gate Approach Camp. A Retired Gatekeeper reveals that multiple keys are needed to proceed and provides the Red Key.
Path to the Sealed Lair (Part 1)
Players acquire the Cirrus Sword and begin searching for keys. The Blue Key is located on a ledge north of the area, near a Golem's corpse and the Lookout Shack Camp. The Yellow Key is found by heading southeast, where players can observe bear Malefacts and Golems fighting each other. Grappling upwards to Tailwater Village leads to a cave with a Level 10 Elite Enemy bear Malefact. Defeating it yields the Tailwater Key, opening a nearby door containing loot and another Golem that provides the Yellow Key. Brad then informs Emma that Kagura has awoken.
Return to the Cleanse Walker
Returning to the Cleanse Walker allows players to interact with Kagura. A flashback depicts Kagura's meeting with Emma and revelations about Emma's duty to slay the Beast of Reincarnation. This segment culminates in a battle against the Level 16 Nue Malefact, which uses unblockable lightning strikes and tail spins, requiring precise dodging and parrying. Following this, Emma meets Brad. Back in Bauera, Kagura's cooking abilities are highlighted, and new facilities like the Incubator and Grow Chamber become available. Growing food and cooking meals provide stat boosts and help manage hunger. Increasing Rapport with Kagura and Koo unlocks more skills and enhances cooking abilities.
Path to the Sealed Lair (Part 2)
Players return to Rangifer's lair to face the boss again. Near the entrance, grapple points lead to the Toward the Nushi's Lair Camp. A Golem merchant offers items, with Fire Arrows recommended due to Rangifer's weakness to flame. This second encounter features a Level 12 Rangifer with an additional health bar. The boss has new unblockable attacks, including a ground stomp and a four-hit antler combo. Winning this fight rewards Emma with Blade Art: Sakura and Koo with Sakura: Javelin Bloom Art, concluding Chapter One.
