Charms are essential equipment for the companion Koo in Beast of Reincarnation, enhancing his combat effectiveness with boosts to attack, health, critical rate, and more. While initially found in optional areas, they become more common enemy drops as players progress.
Early in the game, players can discover several charms in the Ogouchi Buffer Zone. These include items located on rusted golems in a rice field, near large roots, and beside a small tree with pink blossoms. Players should be aware that some of these charms are guarded and may trigger combat upon collection. Other early locations involve searching rusted containers, dropping into sewers, and exploring areas near the Cliffside Village: Outskirts campsite. These spots might yield charms behind crates, on higher ledges, or within wooden crates in tents. One notable location west of the Cliffside Village: Outskirts campsite requires defeating an elite golem to obtain a code, which can then be used on a strongbox for a guaranteed charm.
From the Great Wall Terraces region onward, charms can be obtained as drops from defeated enemies, particularly golems. Given their prevalence, players do not need to seek out every charm location. Common sources for charms include strongboxes, toolboxes, wooden crates, golem remains, and general enemy drops.
All charms found in Beast of Reincarnation begin in a "decayed" state, meaning their stats are unidentified. To reveal the charm's properties and randomized stats, players must interact with a campfire at any campsite. Each identified charm receives one primary stat and one secondary stat, with rarity levels for each stat ranging from 1 to 3. These levels are not linked, allowing for combinations like a low-level primary stat with a high-level secondary stat.
To optimize charm acquisition, players can utilize a save-scumming technique. Before collecting an unidentified charm, especially those found in containers near campsites, players can save their game. Upon identifying the charm, they can reload the save if the stats are unsatisfactory and attempt the process again. This method is particularly effective for static charm locations. However, charms dropped by enemies cannot be rerolled in this manner, as they will disappear if the game is logged out of before collection.
Charms directly benefit Koo, not Emma, by providing the following primary stats based on their rarity:
- Attack: Boosts attack power by 3%, 5%, or 7%.
- Critical: Boosts critical rate by 3%, 5%, or 8%.
