The Echoes of Silenced Bells quest in Blood of Dawnwalker begins shortly after players leave the city of Laslea and venture into the wider world. This particular quest is located in the St. Tyna's Grove region, south of the starting area. Upon arrival at St. Tyna's Convent, players will need to assist Anca, a former nun, in locating specific books that may hold the key to defeating the Vrahkir.

Navigating St. Tyna's Convent

The initial phase of the quest involves meeting Anca and proceeding to St. Tyna's Convent. Here, players will encounter an unsettling sight: all the nuns have been transformed into self-reviving zombies. After escaping an initial group of these undead, the player must guide Anca through the convent's central courtyard to reach the library. Before proceeding, players should retrieve the Saint's Tibia from a corpse located below a ladder on the west side of the area, as this item is used in a later quest.

Two primary approaches exist for navigating the courtyard and reaching the library:

Aid Brencis' Soldiers for the Relic of St. Tyna

By descending a ledge and taking the left path around the infirmary, players will discover a group of Brencis' soldiers trapped within. These soldiers are on a mission to retrieve The Relic of St. Tyna. They will offer a key to the library corridor in exchange for the relic's recovery. The relic has been moved from the main church to the sacristy, a building on the west side of the courtyard marked by a small cross. To gain entry to the sacristy, Monastery Keys are required. These keys can be found in a wooden shed to the right of the sacristy building, hanging against the wall. Inside the sacristy, the relic can be taken from the neck of a deceased nun.

Players can choose to return the relic to Brencis' soldiers to obtain the key. However, the relic is an Epic Amulet and may be valuable to keep. If the player opts to keep the relic, the alternative method of clearing the path becomes necessary. If the relic is exchanged, players receive the keys, can then speak to Anca, and proceed to the library.

Utilize the Convent Bell to Disperse the Soldiers

An alternative strategy involves using the convent bell system to clear the courtyard. By entering the house adjacent to and to the left of the sacristy, players can find the Campana Loquitur. This item details the nuns' daily routines, which they continue to follow even in their zombified state. Using the Monastery Keys, players can unlock the door beneath the bell tower, located to the right of the main church doors in the east of the area. After ascending the stairs, interact with the rope at the top.

Two bell signals are available:

  • Ring the infirmary signal: This action draws all the zombie nuns to the location where the soldiers are stationed, resulting in their demise.
  • Ring the church signal: After the soldiers are eliminated, ringing this signal directs the zombie nuns towards the church. This allows the player to loot the soldiers and the various buildings and corpses within the convent before proceeding to inform Anca that the path to the library is clear.

Confronting the Crypt and Making a Choice

Following the courtyard clearance, the quest progresses to the convent crypt. Players must fight through the crypt to reach the final boss, Leonica, She Who Speaks With the Devil. Upon her defeat, Anca reveals that Leonica was attempting to cure the nuns and expresses a desire to use the recovered notes to complete this task.

Players are presented with a choice: allow Anca to attempt the cure or burn the notes. If Anca is permitted to try and free the nuns, she succeeds, though she acknowledges making further unholy pacts. This choice has no immediate repercussions but may influence future interactions in her questline, specifically in the Stronger Than Achilles quest. If the notes are burned, Anca expresses disappointment but quickly recovers. This option also has no immediate impact, leaving the nuns zombified and preventing further dark bargains.

Regardless of the decision made regarding the notes, the subsequent quest, Between the Words, will still occur, and Anca's behavior will remain consistent. Neither choice affects the potential to romance Anca or continue her associated questline.
