Building strong relationships in Fields of Mistria hinges on understanding the nuanced preferences of its many inhabitants. Each NPC falls into distinct categories for gift-giving, ranging from 'Loved' and 'Liked' to 'Neutral,' 'Disliked,' and 'Hated.' Mastering these preferences is key to accelerating friendship, which can ultimately lead to romance and marriage options within the game. This guide breaks down the gift-giving system and provides specific preferences for each character, updated for version 1.0.

Gifting Basics

Gifts are divided into six categories: Loved, Liked, Neutral, Disliked, Hated, and Banned. Giving a gift on an NPC's birthday significantly increases the friendship points earned. For instance, a 'Loved' gift yields 20 points on a regular day but jumps to 40 on a birthday. Similarly, a 'Liked' gift offers 10 points normally and 30 on a birthday. 'Neutral' gifts provide 3 points, while 'Disliked' and 'Hated' items offer no points. Crucially, giving a 'Hated' gift will not reduce existing friendship points, though it may elicit amusing dialogue.

Only one gift can be given per day, making each choice impactful. Beyond gifts, speaking to an NPC daily also grants seven Friendship Points. For players seeking further insights, Elsie can offer daily gossip, revealing specific gifts preferred by certain characters. Receiving unique dialogue often accompanies the gifting of 'Loved' or 'Hated' items.

Universal Gift Preferences

Certain gifts are universally appreciated, disliked, or banned. These are often obtainable at in-game events and festivals. 'Loved by all' items include the Cow-Shaped Donut, Queen Berry Pie, and Scent of Spring. 'Liked by all' gifts are Candied Queen Berries, Chicky Hot Chocolate, and Floral Tea. 'Disliked or Hated by all' items encompass anything categorized as 'Junk' (such as Fibre, Hay, Sap, Pinecone, Sod), Newts (except for Juniper), and all Bugs (with specific exceptions for Luc, Henrietta, and Dozy).

'Banned Gifts' include Alcohol and Caffeine-containing items when given to children or animals. Chocolate-containing gifts are also banned for animals, with Chicky Hot Chocolate being an exception. Clod Bombs are universally banned.
