Fields of Mistria's 1.0 update introduces comprehensive romance, marriage, and family systems, allowing players to deepen relationships with a diverse cast of NPCs. Whether you are interested in dating characters like the farmhand himbos, fun-loving chefs, reserved medical professionals, or even dragons, the game offers a variety of marriage candidates.
Building Relationships and Heart Events
Players can increase their Friendship Points with NPCs by speaking to them daily and giving them gifts. Each character has specific preferences, with gifts categorized as "Love," "Like," "Dislike," and "Hate." Checking the in-game menu's heart icon will display current Friendship Points and progress towards the next level. Speaking to Elsie daily can also provide hints about NPC gift preferences.
As Friendship Points increase, players will encounter Heart Events at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 Friendship Points with marriage candidates. These events are side-plots that deepen the player's understanding of the characters. After the 4 Heart Event, characters may send birthday letters and can be invited to seasonal festivals. At 8 Hearts, players can confess their feelings and begin dating. Upon reaching 10 Hearts, players can craft an Engagement Ring to propose or designate the character as a Best Friend. Once a character is chosen for dating or marriage, other romantic interests will automatically shift to Best Friends.
Dating and Marriage
To initiate dating, players must have 8 Hearts with a romance candidate and select the "Dating" option during the 8 Heart Event. Dates can only be requested on Saturdays and Sundays, with players able to take out one character each day if they are dating multiple individuals. Successful dates can unlock new date types and provide commemorative Date Photos for the player's home.
To get married, players must reach 10 Hearts with their chosen candidate, complete all their Heart Events, and be officially dating. Elsie will provide the recipe for crafting an Engagement Ring at the Forge. Crafting the ring requires significant story progression, including reaching at least level 90 in The Mines for certain ingredients. Before proposing, the chosen candidate will offer a unique gift tied to their completed Heart Events. Players can accept this gift and decide against marriage, allowing them to collect unique gifts from multiple candidates.
Once a proposal is accepted, players select a wedding date at least five days in advance. The wedding ceremony involves a significant cutscene, with the town's inhabitants participating. After the ceremony, the spouse moves onto the farm, and their daily schedule changes to align with the player's. Two weeks after the wedding, the couple can discuss having children. Players receive a Mystical Feather for a bedtime cutscene, which can be presented to the spouse to initiate the process. The birth of the baby is marked on the calendar two weeks later. Players can currently have only one child, who does not age past infancy in the 1.0 version of the game.
