The Cryo Traveler in Genshin Impact offers a potent, free-to-play friendly option for players looking to enhance their Stellar Glimmer teams. This versatile character can fill either a main DPS or sub-DPS role, excelling particularly in Stellar Swirl compositions. Achieving their full potential involves understanding their optimal team setups, weapon choices, and artifact priorities.
Best Cryo Traveler Teams
The Cryo Traveler performs best within two primary team archetypes: Stellar Conduct and Stellar Swirl. While Stellar Conduct offers more team variety, Stellar Swirl provides a highly accessible entry point, especially if Yumemizuki Mizuki is available.
For Stellar Conduct teams, consider configurations such as Cryo Traveler, Odette, Yae Miko, and Qiqi/Diona/Alyosha. Another effective setup includes Cryo Traveler, Alyosha, Sucrose, and Qiqi/Diona. The Cryo Traveler can also be integrated into Cyno and Wriothesley teams to facilitate their Stellar Glimmer capabilities, particularly at Constellation 6 where it significantly buffs team damage.
Stellar Swirl teams heavily leverage Yumemizuki Mizuki. A prime example is Cryo Traveler, Yumemizuki Mizuki, Odette, and Sucrose/Faruzan. If Faruzan is at Constellation 6, she can serve as a viable alternative to Sucrose.
Best Cryo Traveler Weapons
For most players, the Exaiphanes Blade is the undisputed best weapon for the Cryo Traveler. This free 5-star sword is obtained by progressing through Act 1 of Snezhnaya's Archon Quest and can be refined by visiting Statues of the Seven in the region. Its unique boosts are tailored to the Traveler's kit, making it the premier choice.
Should the Exaiphanes Blade not yet be accessible, prioritize weapons that boost Stellar Glimmer damage or the attack stat. Options like Emberwell, Primordial Jade Cutter, or Whitelake Frostfeather are suitable interim choices.
Best Cryo Traveler Artifacts
The optimal artifact set for the Cryo Traveler depends on their team role. For Stellar Conduct teams, a 4-piece Disenchantment in Deep Shadow set is recommended. For Stellar Swirl teams, a combination of two 2-piece sets that increase attack or a 4-piece Tenacity of the Millelith set are effective.
While Heart of the Furnace can be considered, its effectiveness is reduced as the Cryo Traveler does not consistently trigger Stellar Glimmer reactions as often as other characters.
The preferred main artifact stats are Sands and Goblet focusing on Attack, and the Circlet on Crit Damage. For substats, prioritize Crit Damage, Attack, and Elemental Mastery. Crit Rate should generally be avoided, especially when using the Exaiphanes Blade, as the Traveler's kit already provides ample amounts.
How to Play the Cryo Traveler
Cryo Traveler rotations vary between Stellar Conduct and Stellar Swirl teams. In Stellar Conduct, the typical rotation involves using the Skill, performing charged attacks until eight Frostglow stacks are accumulated, activating the Burst, and then switching to other characters. For Stellar Swirl, the rotation is Skill, then switching off-field to build Frostglow passively, returning to use the Skill again, followed by the Burst.
It is crucial to avoid using the Burst with fewer than eight Frostglow stacks to maximize damage output. The difference in rotations stems from Frostglow being built actively on-field in Stellar Conduct, and passively off-field in Stellar Swirl. Consequently, the Cryo Traveler often acts as the main DPS in Stellar Conduct and a sub-DPS in Stellar Swirl.
When allocating experience for leveling, prioritize Normal Attacks and Burst, followed by the Skill.
The Cryo Traveler's Normal Skill deals Cryo damage and summons Frostpierce Star, applying Frostglow through sustained damage and charged attacks. Consuming Frostglow with the Burst significantly increases its damage.
Within a Stellar Conduct field, the Frostpierce Star's hits are triggered by the Traveler's normal, charged, and plunge attacks, converting all dealt damage to Cryo and increasing it based on the Traveler's attack stat. This necessitates keeping the Cryo Traveler on-field to build stacks and achieve maximum team damage.
An Enhanced Charged attack is gained when any team member deals Stellar Conduct or Stellar Swirl damage, granting Icepoint stacks. At three stacks, a charged attack hits twice, further increasing damage and adding two Frostglow stacks. Having at least two other characters capable of dealing Stellar Conduct or Stellar Swirl damage is essential for quickly building these stacks.
Upon reaching Constellation 6, the Cryo Traveler gains the ability to boost the team's Stellar Glimmer damage for each stack of Frostglow consumed after a Burst, potentially increasing team damage by up to 40% with eight stacks. This transforms the Cryo Traveler into a potent buffer support.
