The 'Home Sweet Home' quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker plunges players into a dreamlike state, forcing a re-experience of the game's early moments within Coen's family home in Laslea Glen. This walkthrough details how to progress through the dream, rescue family members, escape the cyclical nightmare, and ultimately complete the quest.
Starting the 'Home Sweet Home' Quest
To initiate 'Home Sweet Home,' players must ascend Aurelia's Tower, located in the southwestern region known as The Silts. The ascent involves combat with various enemies, culminating in a confrontation with Svetlana, the Dark Prodigy, a witch boss. Upon reaching the tower's apex, players can observe a ritual through a doorway before entering. This action consumes four time segments and triggers the dream sequence, causing the player character to awaken as if at the game's beginning, with their father instructing them to chop wood.
The quest unfolds across five distinct phases: talking to family, rescuing them, escaping the loop, aiding the priest with a sermon, and investigating a meadow.
Rescuing Your Family
Following the initial awakening, players must interact with their family. While dialogue choices and the option to chop firewood appear, they do not alter the outcome: a winged creature, identified as the Keeper of Nightmares, will abduct the family.
The path forward leads to a deceptive figure of the player's mother, Esme. After defeating surrounding enemies, players can select any dialogue option, as Esme will eventually be directed to the church. The same applies to rescuing siblings; after dispatching nearby foes, they too are sent to the church. The Keeper of Nightmares then intervenes, crashing to the ground. Combat with this boss requires parrying its aerial attacks to force it earthbound. Following the encounter, telling Pieter, "There's no time for this," and proceeding to the church reveals the family has no knowledge of Pieter. A subsequent dialogue option, "Get your act together," triggers a cutscene with gargoyle monsters, after which the player is returned to the family home, leading to a repeat of the abduction sequence.
Escaping the Dream Loop
From this point, players can either repeat the dream sequence or seek an exit. Repeating the sequence three additional times results in a secret ending where the player remains in the dream permanently, unlocking the "Together Forever" achievement and triggering the credits. To break free from the loop and progress, players must inspect the well located in the area with Coen's siblings. Through dialogue, selecting the option "Alin" will allow the player to exit the loop.
Assisting the Priest's Sermon
After interacting with the entity in the well, players must use shadowstep to reach the top of a wall and enter a cave. Navigating through platforms via shadowstep leads to a portal. This portal transports the player to an area with ruins resembling the prologue's church. Here, the priest begins a sermon but falters. Players must interact with specific individuals in the correct order when the priest pauses: Alin (by a table with a small coffin), Esme (beside the coffin), and Coen (on the southern pew).
Investigating the Meadow
Upon the sermon's completion, players must pursue a boy through a door and into a portal. Following a torch-lit path, players will investigate a toy, a swing, and a log using focus mode. Continuing through the memory, a cliff descent via claw ride leads to a cutscene. Here, the player encounters Alin, Coen's brother, and learns about their demise. Any dialogue choices will result in Alin advising self-forgiveness and release due to dwindling time.
The quest concludes shortly after this, with the player awakening to an astrologer's attack. The player successfully counterattacks and defeats the astrologer, obtaining the legendary Astrologer's Ring, which offers bonuses to witchcraft ability damage, charge restoration, and cooldowns. Completing 'Home Sweet Home' also fulfills the 'Gargoyle Manufacture' activity for Xanthe, increasing player infamy.
