The "In the Name of the Father" quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker presents players with a significant decision: ally with Father Florin or refuse his assistance. This choice impacts progression, particularly concerning access to Greifberg Castle.

To initiate "In the Name of the Father," players must visit the Svartrau Cathedral on the east side of Svartrau City during the day. Upon entering, Father Florin will approach and ask questions. Regardless of other dialogue choices, agreeing to a confession will advance the quest. It is necessary to confess to all sins and select the "tell me more" option when Father Florin offers additional guidance to officially begin the quest.

Alternatively, "In the Name of the Father" can be started by visiting Father Florin's hideout on the west side of Svartrau City, north of the West Gate. If the player approaches without a quest marker, they will need to knock on the door and potentially defeat beggars who refuse entry. Once inside, exploring the house provides context on Father Florin's activities before proceeding to the southern room on the first floor.

Dropping through a hole in the floor leads to tunnels where Father Florin will be found giving a sermon. Regardless of the player's method of arrival, Father Florin will request assistance. Three primary options are presented:

  • Agree to side with Father Florin: He will instruct the player to prepare for an ancient trial and then provide an ancient key to access the ruins.
  • Refuse to side with Father Florin: He will express disappointment, but the player can still acquire the ancient key from a barrel near the ancient ruins' door. It is also possible to change this decision later by speaking with Father Florin again.
  • Attack Father Florin: This dialogue option will result in combat with Father Florin and the beggars present. Looting his body will yield the ancient key.

Following these interactions, the player uses the ancient key on the northern door to enter the ancient ruins, marking the end of "In the Name of the Father" and the beginning of the "A Hero's End" quest.

The Ancient Trial

The trial within the ancient ruins is described as difficult, with a recommendation to be at least level 15. A shrine is available in the initial room for players to upgrade abilities and set the time of day. After defeating undead enemies and the Ancient Guardian in the first circular room, players can choose a path. Following the left path provides insight into the fate of Father Florin's previous "heroes." The trial culminates in a battle against Rigoz, The Betrayed Hero, a formidable wraith. Players must interrupt Rigoz's healing process by attacking them during the fight. Upon defeating Rigoz, the player can open a coffin to collect the Ancient Hero's Armour, a golden brooch, and a recipe for Potent Balm of Fortitude.

Quest Outcomes

After exiting the ruins through a wall gap and looting a corpse for a key, players can return to Father Florin. If the player initially refused to help but did not kill him, they can still agree to an alliance at this point.

Siding with Father Florin, whether before or after the trial, grants a shortcut into Greifberg Castle. This bypasses enemies guarding the main entrance, allowing direct access to the building and initiating the "A Lone Wolf's Hunt" quest, which leads to the confrontation with Brencis. Those who do not ally with Father Florin will not receive this shortcut but can find alternative routes into the castle.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative RPG where player decisions have consequences, influencing the game's progression and story outcomes.
