The quest 'The Heart Wants What It Wants' in Blood of Dawnwalker, encountered in random taverns, presents a multifaceted narrative centered around aiding the Uriashi, Ocha, and her friend Nora, in their escape from a crime lord. While the core objective is straightforward, the quest's conclusion can vary significantly based on player decisions.
Players begin the quest by speaking with Ocha and Nora at the Altenmarkt inn. The subsequent objective is to locate Andrei's butcher shop, identified by a map marker. Entry into the shop is facilitated via an upper-floor balcony, utilizing vampire powers. Inside, players will find three items that Ocha can use for her amnesia spell: a ring, a pendant, and a cleaver. The ring is the required memento for the spell's success.
Alternatively, players have the option to confront and kill Andrei directly. This path involves descending the stairs and proceeding through a door, which initiates combat. Even after defeating Andrei, any dialogue that follows will ultimately lead to his demise, offering no tangible advantage but influencing Ocha's final options. If the spell is attempted with an incorrect memento, combat with Andrei will also ensue, leading to the same outcome as if he were killed intentionally.
Upon acquiring the correct memento, the ring, players should return to the balcony and initiate dialogue with Ocha. Presenting her with the ring is crucial for the spell's success. Following this, the path to the next stage involves distracting a guard by opening a pig pen, visually represented by . A hex must then be cast on the exterior of the butcher's shop. This action causes Andrei to fatally strike his head against a wall, fulfilling Ocha's cryptic statement about "emptying his head." The quest then directs players to meet Ocha outside the city for its concluding phase.
Deciding Ocha's Future
Outside the city, by the river, Ocha will ask the player to catch crayfish for a meal. Her subsequent path depends on player advice and whether Andrei was killed by the player or by his own actions during the spell. If the player killed Andrei, Ocha can either travel with Nora and dedicate time to teaching the player Swordmastery, or she can return to the Uriashi settlement in the mountains.
Should Andrei have died as a result of the spell, Ocha has two different potential outcomes. She may remain in the city with Nora, establishing themselves as crime bosses in Andrei's former hideout. In this scenario, she will also teach Swordmastery and provide a contact for the 'Study in Crimson' quest, which can be beneficial in future dialogue in Svartrau. The alternative is that Ocha returns to the Uriashi settlement. .
To steer Ocha toward the first option in either scenario (traveling with Nora or staying in the city), players should select dialogue choices such as "Do you miss home?", "New things can be exciting, sure.", and "Our neighbours helped a bit.". To encourage her return to the Uriashi settlement, the dialogue choices should be "Do you miss home", "Meh. Nothing better than homemade food!", and "Our neighbours helped a bit.".
Regardless of the chosen outcome, the quest rewards the player with the Broad Swing Swordmastery manual. Ocha's name may also prove useful later in accessing the Uriashi settlement in the 'Song of the Mountain' quest, even if she does not return there herself. It is presumed that if Ocha returns to the settlement, she may offer Swordmastery training there as well, though this has not been definitively confirmed.
