Corvus, a corvid malefact familiar from earlier encounters in Beast of Reincarnation, presents a significant challenge in Chapter 7. This guide details the strategies needed to defeat this foe, including its attack patterns, elemental vulnerabilities, and recommended preparations. The fight against Corvus takes place in the Giant Tree Zone and is divided into two distinct encounters.
Understanding the Encounters
The first encounter with Corvus occurs on Line 0 and consists of a single phase. This fight serves as a precursor to the second, more challenging encounter on Line 1. While both bosses share the same core mechanics, the second Corvus is tougher, featuring an increased level, an additional attack, and a second health bar. Effectively, the first fight prepares players for the mechanics that will be employed in the subsequent, more difficult battle.
Combat Preparations and Weaknesses
Corvus primarily utilizes Acid-element attacks, making Acid-resistance or status effect cleansing gear crucial. The Amber Breastplate is a recommended armor piece for this purpose. Conversely, Corvus is notably weak to Shock-element attacks. Players should equip the Fall Thunder sword and utilize Koo's Sakura: Javelin Bloom Art. Emma can be equipped with Lightning Arrows, and Koo with Bolt Shards to maximize shock damage.
When Corvus attacks with a three-hit Claw Stab, it presents a prime opportunity to parry and restore FP, which is essential for executing Koo's powerful Bloom Arts. While Corvus is airborne, using a Crossbow or the Zangetsu Bow can stagger the boss, creating openings for close-range Bloom Art attacks. Players should also leverage the environment, particularly the grapple points available in the arena, to evade corrosive puddles left by Corvus' projectiles and avoid damage over time.
Corvus' Moveset
Corrosive Bombs: Corvus flies and launches a barrage of corrosive bombs from its feet. These projectiles deal direct damage and leave behind puddles that inflict damage over time. Players should dodge the initial attack and use grapple points to move to safe zones.
Peck Dive: The boss will ascend before diving towards the player with its beak. This attack can be dodged or evaded by grappling away.
Claw Stab: Corvus performs a rapid three-hit stab with its feet. This sequence is the primary window for parrying and regaining FP for Bloom Arts, though the arena's terrain can sometimes complicate this.
Flying Summons (Second Encounter): In the second fight, Corvus can summon smaller corvid enemies. These are less of a threat and should be dealt with quickly using a bow before returning focus to the main boss.
During the second encounter's final phase, Corvus' dive attack may be imbued with blight, increasing its damage. However, experienced players should be able to evade these enhanced attacks.
Boss Drops
Defeating the Level 38 Corvus yields Nushi Skill: Acid Burst Nobudou, the Nobudou: Burst Bloom Art, and Blade Art: Nobudou. The Level 41 Corvus drops Corvine Memories, which unlocks the Nobudou: Burst 2 Bloom Art and Finisher: Nobudou.
