The Blood of Dawnwalker tasks players with confronting the powerful Vampire Court. This guide details strategies for defeating the four primary bosses: Brencis, Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe, allowing players to progress through the game's narrative and reclaim their family.
Confronting the Vampire Court
Three of the four major vampire bosses can be engaged through the game's general campaign progression. Their leader, Brencis, is typically encountered during the game's finale. For Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe, players must first disrupt their respective operations. Increasing a boyar's anger level through sabotage will eventually trigger a quest to confront them. Upon defeat, players have the option to kill the boss outright, drink their blood for a unique vampiric ability, or absorb their soul, which may offer occasional commentary.
It is advised to equip legendary weapons and armor, alongside optimal skills and perks, before attempting these challenging encounters. A fifth, powerful vampire lord also appears, but only during a specific companion questline.
Ambrus, the Right Fist of the Knyaz
Ambrus commands the northern territories of Vale Sangora and often serves as an early campaign encounter. His combat style prioritizes finesse over brute force. Key abilities include Cleaving Lunge, where he teleports and attacks a targeted area, and Eightfold Slice, a rapid multi-slash attack. His Peerless Bladesman ability makes him difficult to penetrate, requiring perfect blocks and ripostes for damage. Ambrus also possesses Scarlet Shield, which heals him when attacked while active, and Terror in the Shadows, a teleportation-based flurry of stabs used when his health is low.
Successfully defeating Ambrus often involves precise dodging. Completing a related quest can also inflict him with a debilitating poison, simplifying the fight.
Bakir, the Mad Khan
Bakir, formerly the leader of a khanate, now engages opponents in deadly contests. His Fists of Fury involves a close-range flurry of blows, and Flying Kick allows him to teleport and strike. Ground Cascade is a signature move where he slams the ground, creating a linear eruption. The boss quest associated with Bakir, The Lunar Game, is a battle royale that begins with low-tier gear. During this encounter, players must avoid using vampiric abilities to prevent raising Bakir's suspicion.
Xanthe, the Dark Mistress
Xanthe, a practitioner of arcane arts, conducts experiments within the Howling Keep. Her boss fight occurs as part of The Cycle of Love quest, where players must use lanterns to navigate the fortress. Xanthe employs Wicked Tendrils, a series of whip-like attacks that can be blocked by following directional prompts. Successfully blocking multiple tendril attacks can briefly stagger her. Boiling Blood causes exploding glyphs to appear on the ground, and Life Leech allows her to drain the player's health. She can also spawn Life Orbs at certain health thresholds, which must be destroyed to prevent her from healing. In the final phase, Blood Rush, she teleports close and uses Boiling Blood. Xanthe can also be encountered earlier in Svartrau City Cathedral, where the Death From Above ability can be used for significant initial damage.
Brencis, the Knyaz of Vale Sangora
Brencis, the leader of the Vampire Court, is the game's final boss. Players can encounter him in three distinct phases: the Prologue, a potential parley, and the Finale. The Prologue encounter is highly difficult due to Brencis' overwhelming power at that stage. During the parley, players can choose to fight Brencis or ally with him against spectral foes, after which he may offer a deal regarding the player's family and the Manumit rebels. The Finale involves infiltrating Castle Greifberg to face corrupted soldiers and Brencis himself.
After depleting Brencis' health in his humanoid form, the fight moves to Anachora, a vampiric afterlife realm, where he reveals his Grotesque Ascendant form. This form features unblockable melee attacks from malformed limbs, a Belching Blood spew, and Displacement, a teleport followed by an attack. If Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe were previously absorbed as souls, they can manifest during this phase to assist the player with their signature moves.
Defeating Brencis concludes the game, with no New Game Plus mode or post-game exploration available. The outcome of Coen's journey is determined by this final confrontation.
