Tracking down Grounded 2's pond jockey is an important step toward making underwater exploration easier. While the creature itself is not particularly remarkable, scanning the single drop it yields unlocks a new weapon specifically designed for underwater combat.

Pond jockeys can be found in the Skunk Pond, a new area added in the "Into the Abyss" update, located southeast of the Ice Cream Cart. They are somewhat elusive, but are most consistently found in the eastern section of the pond, north of a fallen trash can and west of a bridge. Before venturing into the water, players should craft a tier 2 spear or higher, as these and the harpoon gun are the only weapons usable underwater.

Once in the pond, divers will find the pond jockey easily distinguishable from other aquatic creatures. It is bright green and typically found in the center of a small swarm of smaller pond jockeys. The creature is docile and will not attack unless provoked.

Pond jockeys are weak to salt, but a standard spear will also suffice if salty variants are not available. Players should ensure they have restorative items on hand, as while the adult pond jockey is weak, its swarm can quickly overwhelm an unprepared player. Managing the air meter is also crucial, requiring players to surface for air and healing when necessary. For those with the toe biter buggy, its amphibious nature allows for mounted combat.

After defeating the pond jockey, collect the meat it drops and scan it at an analyzer located at a ranger station. This action will unlock the harpoon gun, a ranged underwater weapon that allows players to engage and weaken enemies from a distance before closing in for melee attacks.
