Pokémon Pokopia's portal pods function as a universal storage system, allowing players to access items stored in one pod from any other pod, regardless of their location. While the recipe for crafting these pods can be obtained without purchasing the Bubbly Basin DLC, it requires significant progress within the base game.
Players can unlock the portal pod crafting recipe by increasing the Environment Level in Palette Town. While the exact requirement has not been officially confirmed, evidence suggests reaching Environment Level 10 is necessary to unlock the recipe. Currently, at Environment Level seven, the portal pod recipe is not visible in the preview of upcoming unlocks, indicating a higher level is needed.
For players who own the Bubbly Basin DLC, obtaining portal pods is more straightforward. After progressing to the point where Ditto can explore the town, players should head to a house located in the northeastern section of the area. Inside this house, one portal pod can be found blocking a staircase. Descending the stairs, turning left, and opening the doors will lead to another portal pod situated in a red-and-white Poké Ball.
Once a portal pod is acquired, players can use the in-game camera to capture a reference image for replication. Opening the camera with the Minus button and switching to reference mode with the Y button allows for this. This reference can then be taken to any rebuilt Pokémon Center. Interacting with the 3D printer inside and spending five rare Pokémetal will yield a copy. This process can be repeated as many times as desired, provided sufficient rare Pokémetal is available.
Using portal pods is simple: place one down, store items, and then place another pod elsewhere. Interacting with the second pod will reveal the contents of the first, and vice versa. This system is particularly useful for managing materials during large building projects, as all necessary items can be stored in a single inventory slot. Furthermore, when a portal pod is placed near a crafting bench, the bench can automatically draw materials from it, streamlining the crafting process.
