In The Blood of Dawnwalker, players assume the role of Coen, a vampire with unique nocturnal powers but also a constant struggle against his own bloodlust. Maintaining Coen's health is crucial, and the game offers several mechanics for vampires to replenish their vitality.
Voracious Bite
The primary method for healing as a vampire is the Voracious Bite skill. This ability can be utilized both in and out of combat. When used in combat, it functions as an offensive move that deals damage based on its level, consuming one activation charge without interruption once cast. Outside of combat, players can hold the focus button, target a suitable victim such as humans, animals, or smaller monsters like kobolds, and then initiate the blood-sucking process by pressing a button prompt. This action can be interrupted if Coen is hit by an opponent's attack. It is important to note that Voracious Bite is ineffective against large creatures like bears and spectral beings that lack blood. The effectiveness of this healing method can be further enhanced by the Nourishing Blood perk, which increases the amount of health restored when drinking blood.
Complementary Skills and Perks
Beyond Voracious Bite, other abilities contribute to a vampire's survivability. The Scarlet Shield skill restores a portion of health upon executing a perfect block. Additionally, a set of perks—Endless Hunger, Closing Wounds, and Blood Theft—support continuous healing while actively engaging enemies. Endless Hunger increases Coen's maximum health, Closing Wounds provides regenerative capabilities, and Blood Theft allows attacks to restore recently lost grey health. For a last resort, the Ultimate ability, Renounce Death, allows Coen to cheat death once per encounter, granting lifesteal through attacks instead of succumbing to defeat.
Consumables and Restoratives
A variety of consumable items can also be used to restore health. Vials of Animal Blood and Vials of Human Blood, obtainable from enemies and containers, can be crafted with an infusion buff to temporarily boost maximum health. Items such as Tainted Marrows, Kobold’s Blood, and Murohn’s Blood, which drop from monsters and undead foes, provide direct healing. The Anachora Ivy, a unique vine found only in the Anachora realm, is another restorative option obtained during specific quests.
Gear with Healing Passives
Finally, players should be on the lookout for armor and accessories that offer passive healing bonuses. These can include enhancements to maximum vampiric health, increased vampiric health segment regeneration, improved blood drinking restoration, and added lifesteal from attacks.
