In The Blood of Dawnwalker, the "A Bulwark Against Darkness" quest offers players the chance to acquire the legendary Arbiter Armor set. This powerful heavy armor requires gathering four distinct components: a relic of a saint, the moult of a large lizard, a bundle of silk threads, and a flask of quicksilver. Players must first achieve infamy level 4 (notorious) to initiate the quest by receiving a mysterious letter. This can be done by completing sabotage missions linked to the game's boyars.
Component Acquisition
The quest provides a "List of armor components" detailing the needed items. These can be collected in any order, though the following guide presents them roughly by increasing difficulty.
Relic of a Saint
Many items with "Saint" or "St." in their name will suffice for this component, as it must be sacrificed. The most recommended option is the "Saint's Tibia," found in St. Tyna's convent on a body in the courtyard during or after the "Echoes of Silenced Bells" quest. Alternatively, "The Relic of St. Tyna" can be taken from soldiers during the same quest, or "The Relic of St. Tobias" found during one of Lacra's quests. "The Relic of St. Dasius" is also available for purchase from a witchcraft merchant, though at a high cost.
Moult of a Large Lizard
This component is found within a cave located east of the Muddy Trail shrine in the swamp between the Briar Sloughs and Maragir Wealds regions. Players will need to defeat tatzelwurms inside to access the moult at the back of the cave. If players have undertaken "The Bittersweet Toast" quest, they might have already visited this cave; if the moult was missed, it can still be retrieved.
Flask of Quicksilver
The flask of quicksilver is located at the summit of Silts Tower, also known as Aurelius' Tower, on the southern edge of The Silts region. While the "Who Pulls the Strings" quest may lead players to investigate the tower, it is not mandatory. The tower is guarded by a winged monster and human soldiers on lower floors. The flask can be found on a table in a room on the fourth floor after completing the "Home Sweet Home" quest, which teleports players to a dreamscape.
Bundle of Silk Threads
Acquiring the bundle of silk threads involves following the Sanzhani quest line. Players should explore the Svartrau Outskirts and approach a glowing boulder surrounded by red mushrooms to begin the "Good Home" quest. After speaking with the Sanzhani Tsarina, new quest markers will appear. Players can obtain the silk threads either by purchasing them from a Sanzhani trader unlocked via the "Pearly and Precious" quest or by completing the "Come Hither" quest for free. The latter begins south of Svartrau City, where players must defeat a mini-boss named Murohn, Malformed Monstrosity, to collect the threads.
Forging the Arbiter's Armor
Once all four components are gathered, players must travel to the Uriashi blacksmith located in the northwest corner of the Briar Sloughs region. The location should be marked on the map after receiving the initial quest letter. Players should inform the blacksmith they have all necessary components, ensuring they do not select a relic of a saint they wish to keep. A binding ritual will commence, requiring players to prepare for combat against wolves and a ravenous bear. Upon their defeat, the Arbiter's Armor set will be added to the player's inventory, completing the "A Bulwark Against Darkness" quest and unlocking the "Arbiter's Regalia" achievement.
