Purple gourds in Big Walk function similarly to their red counterparts, serving as rewards from puzzles and contributing to tower completion. The primary distinction lies in their color and the increased difficulty of their associated puzzles, which are advanced versions of others found throughout the game. While they may appear after unlocking the ski lift, and are not immediately visible on the 3D map, players can tackle them at any time. However, it is advisable to save these more complex challenges for later, once players have a better grasp of the game's puzzle mechanics.
All seven purple gourd puzzles are situated in the southern part of the map. Access can be gained by completing the green tower and utilizing the chair lift, or by traversing the southeastern coastal route.
These seven puzzles represent more difficult iterations of existing challenges: the timer puzzle, golf puzzle, button location puzzle, speaker puzzle, posing puzzle, obstacle course puzzle, and symbol sign puzzle. It is recommended to first attempt their simpler versions, located in various parts of the map, to better prepare for the purple gourd variants.
Purple Gourd Timer Puzzle
The purple gourd timer puzzle mirrors its less challenging counterpart, but with a significantly extended duration. Instead of a five-minute wait, players must now wait for 30 minutes. This extended period offers an opportunity to take a break, attend to other tasks, or engage in conversation.
Purple Gourd Golf Puzzle
For the purple gourd golf puzzle, the core objective remains the same as the red gourd version: transporting a heavy ball to its designated hole. The difficulty is amplified by the need to carry this substantial ball across a longer distance to a new hole location. Following a specific path that involves activating the chair lift and unlocking tunnels is recommended. The ball should be taken south, then east up the hill. Approaching the blue spiral building, players should turn left towards the chair lift, ascend a large rock, and ride the ski lift south to the mountain containing the purple gourd. From there, carefully disembark, proceed through the purple tunnel, descend the hill, turn right, ascend another hill, and finally place the ball in the hole.
Purple Gourd Button Location Puzzle
This puzzle typically involves two rooms: one with lights and one with buttons. In its multiplayer form, players in the light room describe the illuminated locations to their partners in the button room. For groups of three or more, directions are relayed through a window. The purple gourd version removes the visual communication channel, introducing an intercom and a light bulb in the button room. The light room player can only communicate by turning on a light bulb, which the button room player must interpret. For instance, questions can be posed by turning the light bulb on once for 'yes' and twice for 'no'.
Purple Gourd Speaker Puzzle
Similar to its red gourd counterpart, the purple gourd speaker puzzle omits the intercom. Players must communicate the sound emitted by the speaker using only gestures. A suggested method involves tapping out rhythms on a window and indicating pitch by sliding a hand up or down the glass.
Purple Gourd Posing Puzzle
The purple gourd posing puzzle substitutes traditional gesture prompts with symbols. Players must now replicate specific symbols such as a spiral, snowman, or lowercase 'e' using hand gestures. Drawing the symbols on windows with hands can be an effective strategy for solving this challenge.
Purple Gourd Obstacle Course Puzzle
The physical layout of the obstacle course remains identical to its easier version. However, the purple gourd variant introduces a time constraint from the outset, with a tomato timer present at the beginning of the course.
Purple Gourd Symbol Sign Puzzle
This puzzle significantly increases the complexity of sign recognition, expanding the selection from nine options to thirty-six, many of which bear strong resemblances. Success hinges on clear and precise communication to accurately describe these intricate symbols.
