Parrying in Mortal Shell 2 is a defensive maneuver that can interrupt enemy attacks and stagger opponents, opening them up for critical damage. This technique, common in souls-like games, is not available from the outset of the campaign but can be unlocked by acquiring the Infinite Seal.

The Infinite Seal is obtained from Sester Genessa in the Marrow Keep area, which serves as the game's central hub and features several helpful NPCs. To reach the training grounds where Sester Genessa is located, players must progress past a tunnel near the Marrow Keep beacon.

Early in the game's prologue, players will find the Untarnished Seal, which allows for blocking attacks, and the Vatra's Seal, enabling the Harden mechanic. The Slayer Seal is also present in Marrow Keep but disables achievements and may be considered a difficulty modifier. The Infinite Seal, however, is key to unlocking the parry.

Once the Infinite Seal is acquired, it must be equipped through the inventory system. Players can practice the parry timing against Sester Genessa before engaging in combat with hostile creatures. The parry is executed by pressing the corresponding input for the platform: the 'Q' key on PC, 'LB' on Xbox controllers, or 'R1' on PlayStation controllers.

Successful parries require precise timing, executing the move just as an enemy's attack is about to land. A well-timed parry will nullify the incoming blow and inflict significant break damage on the opponent. Filling an enemy's break meter results in them becoming staggered, allowing for a powerful riposte. It is important to note that unblockable attacks, indicated by a flashing red circle icon, cannot be parried.
