Mortal Shell 2 presents players with a gauntlet of challenging and creatively designed bosses, each featuring unique mechanics and screen-filling attacks. While the main quest revolves around a smaller number of bosses guarding the Corrupted Gates, numerous minibosses also stand in the player's path. This guide offers a comprehensive breakdown of every boss, including their locations and recommended strategies for overcoming them.

Early Encounters

The journey begins with the Gloombound Ritualist, the first boss encountered during the prologue. While not exceptionally difficult, it summons exploding minions that pose a significant threat. Players are advised to dodge these summons and capitalize on openings to attack the Ritualist directly, utilizing Perfect Guards and Harros' Stone Stun.

Following this is the Tainted Vestige, a more formidable early-game opponent. This boss initiates combat by burrowing its arms to launch underground spikes, necessitating timely dodges. Its melee attacks are generally telegraphed and blockable, but an unblockable grab attack can lead to swift defeat.

The Tar Golem

The Tar Golem serves as the final boss of the prologue and an early test of player skill. While it is possible to defeat it for an achievement, the narrative outcome remains the same regardless of victory or defeat, with the companion Harros sacrificing himself to allow the player to progress. The Golem's attacks are powerful, with some unblockable when it wields both axes or jumps. Players should focus on dodging to its sides and attacking when it leaves its axes embedded in the ground.

Mid-Game Challenges

The Great Arbiter of Flesh presents a significant challenge, particularly for players who have not yet unlocked alternative Shells. This boss employs feints and a dangerous unblockable grab. Mastering parries, guards, and hardens is crucial for survival.

Vrannic, the Grand Illusionist, initially relies on projectile attacks and an unblockable staff strike. The fight escalates when Vrannic summons illusory copies of himself, filling the screen with projectiles. These copies can be dispatched with a single hit, and eliminating them quickly is key to returning to the fight against the true Vrannic.

The Circle of the Grasping Root is a mob-based encounter featuring a large Frog Mama and three cultists. This fight can be significantly eased by using the Troubadour's Lute to turn the cultists against each other, or by utilizing a poison-focused build with the Shell Tiel.

The Wandering Shepherd initiates a unique battle where he teleports away, leaving the player to fight transformed, evil sheep. The Shepherd himself later transforms into the Tarblighted Shepherd. The Sheephead Totem, if acquired, can be useful for understanding sheep attack patterns and even fighting back while transformed into a sheep.

Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods, attacks from a rocket-powered mobility scooter, making for a chaotic encounter. Opportunities to strike are scarce initially, requiring players to attack her sides and exploit moments when her scooter gets stuck. She also summons Tar Babies, which can be used to build Resolve before re-engaging Magdalena.

Late-Game Foes

The Broodshell Swarm consists of two Leechtongues and a Bell Snail. The Leechtongues' unblockable lunging attack should be dodged, leaving them vulnerable. The Bell Snail is slower and less aggressive once the Leechtongues are dealt with.

Proxima lunges forward with an axe strike against the Broodshell Swarm in Mortal Shell 2.

The Grisha in the Flooded Village is a resilient foe. Staggering it to inflict Break damage is key, and a heavy weapon like the Battle Axe is effective. An unblockable spinning attack can be telegraphed by a roar and upward thrust.

Lucian, the Thirsting Knight, employs swift scimitar strikes that can be dodged or blocked. The second phase of the fight introduces invisibility, making parries difficult. Staying aggressive and performing combos can prevent him from turning invisible, and hardening can mitigate damage.

The Tarblighted Stoner is a large, fire-infused brute that throws boulders, some of which are unblockable. Building up Break damage with heavy attacks is recommended, while avoiding its projectile attacks.

The Tarblighted Stoner chucks a huge rock at Proxima in Mortal Shell 2.

Finally, the Lost Child is a grotesque slug-like boss that spews acid and has an unblockable arm swipe. It can also inhale everything in the arena, an attack that cannot be blocked and requires dodging. Ranged attacks, particularly those infused with Burn, can be effective, as can heavy melee combos.

Proxima performs a deadly riposte against the Lost Child in Mortal Shell 2, pulling at its huge jaw.
