Following the prologue of Mortal Shell 2, players will step into the game's first true open-world region: Widow's Overlook. This area north of Marrow Keep offers a less perilous starting point compared to the Outskirts Of Mammon. This guide will detail the path through Widow's Overlook, leading to new maps, a new Shell, Tarstones, and essential upgrade materials.

Marrow Keep Exploration and Preparation

Upon arriving at the Marrow Keep Beacon, players can level up their character. Unlike many other Soulslike titles, Mortal Shell 2 dictates stat upgrades based on the character's level rather than player choice. The initial goal is to familiarize yourself with Marrow Keep, your central hub. From the Beacon, proceed down the left path to find a disciple, then turn left again into a crypt containing lootable items: a Coin Pouch, Ventrium, and a Coin Of Mammon.

In the main arena, speak with Sester Genessa to initiate a mandatory training exercise. Successfully executing Perfect Guards and Ripostes will reward you with the Infinite Seal. Genessa will also mention a prison for her "fractured selves." To find it, look for a white symbol on a wall to the right of the wooden stairs; attacking this illusory wall reveals a censer that can transport you to the Desolate Keep, a dangerous late-game dungeon that should be avoided for now.

Further exploration of Marrow Keep includes meeting Vratko, who offers to wash your feet. Adjacent to him, ascend stairs to reach Franz and the Tarforge, where weapons can be upgraded. After giving Franz the Muradean Actuator from the prologue, your Iconoclast sword can be upgraded to +3 using available Coin and Ventrium.

In the Ova Nursery, you can interact with Milos, the Ovum Keeper, and the Gloom Siphon, which provides free Gloom based on un-siphoned Ova. Opposite the Nursery is Merrick's area. Although his shop is not yet open, speaking with him yields a free map to the Forgotten Crossbow and allows you to pet his dog, Louis. Continuing past Merrick leads to a lower cave where the Slayer Seal can be found. Equipping this Seal disables achievements and is intended for players seeking an easier experience; it is not recommended for this walkthrough.

Entering Widow's Overlook

Return to the Marrow Keep Beacon and proceed to the elevator room. Ride it to the tower's top and speak with Ruk. Select the north path to be transported to the Widow's Overlook Beacon. Inside the Beacon, you can loot a Glimpse, a resource used to upgrade Shells in Marrow Keep. Next to the Beacon, a journal entry provides lore on the region's boss. Head north to find a Corrupted Statue. Collect the 3x Weltcaps from a nearby tree before interacting with the statue to initiate a trial. Defeat the two waves of Wraiths to complete the trial and receive the Retribution Stone, a Tarstone that increases Riposte damage by 20%.

Past the Corrupted Statue, find Gorf, a large toad. Giving him a Weltcap will reward you with a Marsh Pearl, valuable for selling. Continue left from Gorf to find Torch Cultists; defeat them and loot another Ventrium. Across a wooden bridge guarded by a Shield Brigand, you'll find Ruk at a Map Statue. Looting this statue grants the Map Of Fainweald [3].

Navigating to New Areas and Shells

Turn back from Ruk's statue and take a left to find a gnarly tree guarded by two Netopyrs. After crossing another bridge, you'll reach the Blackridge Pass Beacon. Proceed into the Mustworn Tomb below. Inside, be cautious of explosive barrels. Defeat the Crossbowman and clear the path by shooting barrels from a safe distance using your Naylshotte. After defeating the Tarblighted Miner guarding the corruption, cleanse it to retrieve the Ovum from the Mustworn Tomb.

Return to the Widow's Overlook Beacon. On your way back, feed Gorf another Weltcap to receive a second Marsh Pearl. At the Widow's Overlook Beacon, head east down a slope. Kill the three Cultists in a ditch ahead. Before proceeding, loot a Burnt Effigy from a statue by turning around. Reach the noticeboard at the entrance to Mushroom Village. Ascend a rocky platform using an air current to find Ruk again, this time yielding the Map Of Fainweald [4].

Drop down and head to the other side of Ruk's platform. Near a camp guarded by soldiers, watch out for bear traps. Loot the camp for a Coin Pouch and Common Moonshine. Nearby, defeat Lithopods guarding a statue containing a Ventrium.

To the other side of Ruk's platform, enter a fenced area. Approach the grave within to unlock the Tiel Shell and enter its Shell Memory. Tiel specializes in Perfect Dodges to build Shadow, enabling invisibility and Shadow Strikes. After unlocking Tiel, equip it. Around Tiel's grave, find the Wounding Stone Tarstone and a Coin Pouch. Enter the fog wall leading to the Ritual Grounds dungeon. Defeat Sheild Brigands and Batushkas. You will encounter Leechtongue creatures, whose attacks are telegraphed by a soundwave. After navigating the lower levels and defeating more enemies, complete a Corrupted Statue trial with Lithopods and a Tarred Vestige to earn a Glimpse. Confronting the Great Arbiter of Flesh

Return to the noticeboard near the Mushroom Village entrance and head up the dirt slope. Follow the grassy lip around a stone structure to find a Laterite, then defeat the Wretches camping on the far side. Inside the structure is the entrance to the Martyr's Tomb. Loot a Burnt Effigy before descending. Inside, defeat Cultists and Batushkas. Find another Laterite by attacking a bone statue and press a wall button to open a gate. Beyond the gate, defeat an enemy and loot a chest containing a Parasitic Stone Tarstone and an Obsidian Lathe.

Exit the Martyr's Tomb and confront the Great Arbiter Of Flesh, the boss previously sidestepped. This boss is challenging but manageable with Tiel's Shell. Focus on parrying its attacks, being mindful of its feint attack and its 360-degree spinning strikes. Upon defeat, you receive a Glimpse and the Arbiter's Prize Tarstone. Loot the graveyard for a Burnt Effigy, a Revered Gland (to permanently increase Mether's Pulse heals), and the Gloombound Flame.

Final Preparations and World State Changes

Return to Marrow Keep and give Franz the Obsidian Lathe to unlock sidearm upgrades at the Tarforge. Ascend the Marrow Keep elevator to the top and interact with the Extinguished Lantern using the Gloombound Flame. This summons Thestus, an NPC who allows you to switch the world to nighttime. Nighttime increases enemy difficulty and rewards, offering unique content. For this walkthrough, daytime will be maintained unless specified. You can return to Widow's Overlook and proceed towards Mushroom Village for the next stage of your journey.
