Mortal Shell 2 features a diverse array of sixteen distinct weapons and sidearms, alongside nine unique "Shells" that grant players access to varied abilities and playstyles. This guide details how to find every armament and unlock each playable character throughout the game's world of Fallgrim.

Weapons and Sidearms

A total of sixteen armaments are scattered across Fallgrim. Two are acquired during the prologue, six are found in the Fainweald region, and the remaining eight are located in the Mammon region. All weapons and sidearms can be upgraded using Tarforge at Marrow Keep, provided you have sufficient currency and smithing materials.

Prologue Armaments

During the prologue, players will obtain The Iconoclast, a standard one-handed sword, and Naylshotte, a shotgun-like sidearm. The Untarnished Seal, which enables blocking attacks, is also acquired during this early stage. Unlocking the Harros Shell also grants access to The Iconoclast and Naylshotte.

Fainweald Armaments

Six armaments can be discovered in the Fainweald region.

  • Sidearm #2: Forgotten Crossbow This sidearm is found within the Flooded Village dungeon. Players must navigate through the dungeon, defeat enemies including Spear Maidens and Toxic Cultists, acquire the Damp Key, and solve a puzzle to open a door, ultimately leading to the crossbow.

  • Weapon #2: Veteran’s Battle Axe Located inside the King's Crypt dungeon, this weapon is accessible after unlocking the Proxima Shell. A dirt path leads to the dungeon entrance, where players must clear enemies to claim the axe from a sarcophagus.

  • Weapon #3: Axe & Dagger Obtaining the Chapel Key, found near the Mushroom Village beacon, is necessary to access this armament. The key unlocks a tower near the One-Legged Wolf tavern. Inside, players will solve puzzles and defeat an Armored Knight to acquire the Axe & Dagger.

  • Sidearm #3: Troubadour’s Lute This sidearm can be found in the One-Legged Wolf tavern in eastern Fainweald. After collecting enough Ova to cleanse corruption blocking the path, players can enter the tavern and find the lute on stage. It has the ability to cause confusion among enemies.

  • Sidearm #4: Salvaged Trebuchaxe This axe-firing sidearm is the reward for clearing the Ravaged Hideout dungeon, located at the base of the hilly area outside the Citadel of Penance. Defeating the Bloodcursed Lithopod boss opens the way to the lair where the Salvaged Trebuchaxe is found.

  • Weapon #4: Great Martyr’s Blade Inside the Martyr’s Prison dungeon, near the Citadel of Penance, players can find this weapon. Interacting with a coin pouch teleports the player to the prison area, where defeating foes leads to the Great Martyr's Blade.

Mammon Armaments

Eight armaments are hidden within the Mammon region.

  • Weapon #5: Obsidian Hammer This weapon is located within the Obsidianite Mines dungeon. From the Outskirts of Mammon beacon, players descend into a quarry and enter the mines. After navigating a chasm, a Prophet of Profane Infinites miniboss must be defeated to obtain the Obsidian Hammer.

  • Sidearm #5: Ballistazooka The Sentry’s Grave dungeon, inside the Lonesome Spire, houses the Ballistazooka. Players must contend with Ballista Head enemies and a Subjugated Guardian miniboss in the final chamber to acquire this sidearm.

  • Sidearm #6: Triarch Repeater This sidearm is found within the Blackwell Cavern dungeon. Players navigate dimly lit tunnels, following a cliffside path and using a wooden lift, to find the Triarch Repeater.

  • Sidearm #7: Cursed Child Within the Revered Beacon area of Sester’s Abbey, players must avoid the spotlight of an "Eye of Sauron"-like structure. Destroying the object at the top of the area yields the Cursed Child.

  • Weapon #6: Axatana Found in the Forgotten Tower, accessible via a jump gate across a ravine near Sester’s Abbey. After using another jump gate and activating a plate near a metal door, players must defeat a Dagger Sester to claim the Axatana.

  • Weapon #7: Black Needle This spear is obtained by completing the Sester’s Gate dungeon in Sester’s Abbey. After defeating the Twin Sisters boss encounter, a Stray Sester will drop the Black Needle upon defeat.

  • Weapon #8: Clockwork Scythe and Sidearm #8: Caged Hystrix These two armaments are found in the Chamber of Becoming dungeon, south-southeast of Castigator Keep. After an initial encounter with Sariel, players re-enter the dungeon to face him again. Defeating him rewards the Clockwork Scythe, and the Caged Hystrix is found near the exit after watching Sariel’s memory.

Shell Locations

Mortal Shell 2 features nine playable Shells, each with unique abilities. One is available during the prologue, while the others are discovered throughout Fainweald and Mammon. Completing each Shell’s memory sequence and leveling up its bond with the Shellkeeper NPC in Marrow Keep unlocks its full potential.

Prologue Shell

  • Shell #1: Harros This balanced Shell, familiar to players of the first game, is unlocked during the prologue. However, access to Harros is permanently lost as part of the narrative arc at the prologue's conclusion.

Fainweald Shells

Five Shells can be found in the Fainweald region.

  • Shell #2: Tiel Located near the Widow’s Overlook beacon, Tiel's remains are found in a hastily dug grave a short distance down a dirt path.

  • Shell #3: Proxima This Shell is found after reaching the Blackridge Pass beacon. Players must proceed past enemies and a glowing beacon to interact with Proxima's remains.

  • Shell #4: Gragu Accessible from the One-Legged Wolf beacon, Gragu requires the "Heart of Vatra" item. This item is found in a temple complex to the east, guarded by numerous enemies. Returning the Heart of Vatra to Gragu in the tavern allows players to inhabit his husk.

  • Shell #5: Eredrim Found within the Citadel of Penance in northwestern Fainweald. After riding an elevator to the center, the floor collapses, leading to a fighting pit where Eredrim's remains can be claimed.

  • Shell #6: Smert Located in the swamplands known as the Outskirts of Nochte. Players must complete a blood ritual by sacrificing enemies in three pools near a bluff to interact with Smert's body.

Mammon Shells

Three Shells are hidden within the Mammon region.

  • Shell #7: Lazlo Within the High Lord’s Courtyard, players must defeat the boss Vellen, Lord of Mammon. Lazlo's corpse can then be found in the final chamber of the keep.

  • Shell #8: Sariel Sariel is encountered in the southeastern part of Mammon, near the Silent Steps beacon. After an initial fight, players pursue him into the Chamber of Becoming dungeon for a final confrontation. Defeating Sariel unlocks him as a playable Shell.

  • Shell #9: Genessa To unlock Genessa, players must first obtain the Sester’s Chalice. This involves completing a boss fight against Sester Secundus in a separate realm, accessed by interacting with specters near the Abbey Entrance beacon in Mammon. The Chalice is then given to Genessa in Marrow Keep, allowing players to relive her memory and unlock her as a Shell. Genessa is unique in that her bond is upgraded by speaking with her directly, rather than through the Shellkeeper.
