Players venturing into the Fainweald region of Mortal Shell 2 may find themselves seeking the Crypt Key and the Chapel Key, two essential items that grant access to new dungeons and offer significant rewards. This guide details their locations and how to use them.
The Crypt Key is situated in the western part of Fainweald, at an area known as Desolate Peak. The door it unlocks, however, is located in the eastern section of the region, north of the Grisha Hunting Grounds and south of the Stones of Remembrance. To reach Desolate Peak, players can follow a sloping path from the Citadel of Penance towards the lower cliffside. After passing the arena where the Bloodcrused Lithopod mini-boss is fought, an archway serves as a jump-off point. Inside a ruined building at Desolate Peak, the Crypt Key can be found on a wooden table. An NPC named Baghead, encountered in this location, may have a request for the player.
Once the Crypt Key is acquired, players can use it to unlock a tower in the hilly area near the Stones of Remembrance and Grisha Hunting Grounds. This tower leads to a dungeon called the Hall of Echoes. Within this dungeon, players will encounter a stone block that needs to be struck and moved onto a pressure plate to open a chamber. Inside this chamber, several items can be found, including the Winterglass Gem, which can be sold for 1,000 coins, Dorsalite for weapon upgrades, and the Sheephead Totem. The Sheephead Totem allows the player to transform into a sheep, rendering them undetectable, and passively reduces enemy maximum health.
Elsewhere in Fainweald, the Chapel Key is located near the Mushroom Village. From the Mushroom Village beacon, players should head slightly southeast. Across from this position, enemies gather around a bonfire near a stone arch. After defeating the enemies, players can interact with the stone arch, which is a magical object that reveals a large statue holding a rope. Pulling the rope will yield the Chapel Key.
With the Chapel Key in hand, players can return to the Mushroom Village beacon and proceed left to find a tower. This tower houses the Shrine of Trials dungeon. Inside the first room of the Shrine of Trials, a statue provides a clue: "Gaze upon your king so true, back and back you shall pass through." Facing the king statue and walking backward will reveal an illusory wall. The second room requires players to hit two stone pedestals, placing them on pressure plates to open the path forward. The final room tasks players with defeating the Spear Knight enemy to claim the Axe & Dagger weapon as a reward.
