Mortal Shell 2's world of Fallgrim, now divided into Fainweald and the Ruins of Mammon, can be a disorienting place for even the most seasoned adventurer. To aid players in their journey as the Harbinger, this guide details the locations of all fast travel beacons and maps, as well as strategies for overcoming the game's formidable bosses.
Fainweald Fast Travel and Maps
Ruk, a crow-like entity, provides players with maps that reveal portions of the world. Fast travel beacons function similarly to bonfires in other soulslike games, allowing players to replenish health, resolve, and flask charges, though activating them causes regular enemies to respawn. After the prologue and initial visit to Marrow Keep, players must collect and siphon at least five additional Ova to unlock fast travel capabilities and the ability to remove corrupted vines that block pathways. Marrow Keep serves as the central hub, with fast travel always available there, along with the two prologue beacons: Village Outskirts and Disciple’s Pass.
Most major dungeons, known as Corrupted Gates, feature three additional beacons, with the final one appearing after the dungeon's main boss is defeated. These beacons typically contain 26x Ova.
- Widow’s Overlook (Beacon #1, Map #1): Accessible from Marrow Keep. From the Great Arbiter of Flesh miniboss, head south and use an air current to reach Ruk's perch for the map. The first map is near Tiel's grave.
- Blackridge Pass (Beacon #2, Map #2): North of Widow's Overlook, near a trial altar. A map is found via the left rope bridge, and the beacon via the right.
- Mushroom Village (Beacon #3) and Mushroom Village Gate (Beacon #4): Located by the grave where Tiel was found. The Gate beacon must be cleansed to access the Corrupted Gate: Glutted Mire.
- One-Legged Wolf (Beacon #5, Map #3): Found after clearing corrupted tendrils between Mushroom Village and Mushroom Village Gate. The Troubadour's Lute and Gragu shell are nearby.
- Stonebled Gate (Beacon #6): Located north of the Stones of Remembrance graveyard. Cleansing this beacon grants access to the Corrupted Gate: Sanguine Caverns.
- Gloomshade Grove (Beacon #7): Accessible from the lower section of Stonebled Gate, in a cavernous area where hunters battle a Grisha monster.
- Citadel of Penance (Beacon #8, Map #4): The beacon is right of the main gate, and the map is near the market stalls.
- Outskirts of Nochte (Beacon #9, Map #5): Found in the swamplands to the west. The map is atop a bluff near a ruined building.
- Nochtean Gate (Beacon #10): Located southwest, in front of the Corrupted Gate: Prisoners’ Domain.
Ruins of Mammon Fast Travel and Maps
- Outskirts of Mammon (Beacon #1, Map #1): This beacon is pre-cleansed and available by default for the Mammon region. The map is on a bluff near a catapult.
- Abandoned Outpost (Beacon #2): East of the catapult, accessible by using a bone gate to jump across a gap. The Collector vendor NPC may appear here in Night Mode.
- High Lord’s Courtyard (Beacon #3, Map #2): Located northwest. The map is near Ruk's perch, close to the crypt housing the Lazlo shell.
- Gate of Mammon (Beacon #4): South of High Lord’s Courtyard. Cleansing this beacon grants access to the Corrupted Gate: Withered Shoals.
- Mammon Map #3: Situated between the eastern Lonesome Spire and the Deserted Slums quarry.
- Castigator’s Keep (Beacon #5, Map #4): South from Outskirts of Mammon, jump across a large gap. The map is along the cliffside leading to the fortress.
- Gate of Infinity (Beacon #6, Map #5): South of Castigator’s Keep. After defeating the Starved Harridan miniboss, proceed to find the map and the beacon, which unlocks the Corrupted Gate: Faded Citadel. Invincible cultists surround the beacon and must be dealt with by striking a blue flame lantern.
- The Silent Steps (Beacon #7): Across a stone pathway from the area with the Thief’s Stone trial, guarded by Giant Snails. The adjacent bone gate leads to the Sariel boss fight.
- Abbey Entrance (Beacon #8, Map #6): From Outskirts of Mammon, head southeast, use a bone gate to jump east. The map is south of Revenant Graves within Sester’s Abbey, requiring players to climb a tower with a chest and spiral stairs.
- Sester’s Gate (Beacon #9): Located in the southeastern corner of Sester’s Abbey. Cleansing this beacon unlocks the Corrupted Gate: Conquered Temple.
Major Boss Encounters
Mortal Shell 2 features major bosses at the end of Corrupted Gates and in the final dungeon. Defeating them yields 26x Ova and a new beacon.
- Glutted Mire: Magdalena, Lady of the Woods. Her attacks include Cart Ram, Fire Spin, and summoning Blown Babies. Tiel is recommended for this fight due to its focus on avoidance. Reward: Magdalena’s Memento.
- Sanguine Caverns: The Lost Child. Notable attacks are Belching Breath and the deadly Digest & Excrete grab. Reward: Lost Clotstone. A Blackmarrow Key is found in an inner chamber after cleansing the final beacon.
- Prisoners’ Domain: The Nameless Captive. This is a direct melee confrontation with Sword Stab and Violent Swing attacks. Memorizing attack patterns is key. Reward: Captive’s Scabstone.
- Conquered Temple: Droeg the Conqueror. This ogre's most dangerous ability is Blazing Frostfire, which launches homing projectiles. Reward: Conqueror’s Reward. A Frostshard Stone can be found beyond the area with periodic cold damage.
- Withered Shoals: Hexapod. This boss is considered one of the easier major encounters. Its melee attacks telegraph its vulnerable head, and its Squid Surge can be dodged sideways. Reward: Hexapod Core.
- Faded Citadel: Isaac, the Scholar Prince. Isaac fights in melee but possesses high range with Leaping Lunge and Pin Cushion combos. His attacks become more erratic after losing his shield at 50% health. Reward: Scholar’s Wormstone.
The Unfound Path
The game's final dungeon, the Unfound Path, requires players to defeat three bosses guarding tendrils before facing the ultimate foe.
- Bridge of Procession: Orrem, the Discarded Golem / Orrem, the Reclaimed. The first phase features Cascading Fire and ground slams. The second phase adds tail lashes and ranged flame explosions. Reward: Orrem’s Head.
- Obsidian Vault: The Monolith. Initially attacks by jumping and attempting to squash the player. After half health, it unleashes damaging beams while spinning. Reward: Monolith Fragment.
- Faithful’s Shelter: Malborn Offspring. A difficult two-phase fight with hard-to-predict Cleaving Combos. The second phase infuses attacks with lightning. Proxima or Genessa shells are recommended. Reward: Offspring Trophy. The Endless Core, which removes the Tarforge upgrade limit, is found in the Hidden Nave beacon before this boss.
- Final Boss: Zmey the Unbidden. This dragon breathes Cosmic Flames and uses Blade Slam and Cascading Flare attacks. The Seedbearer’s Scripture can mitigate damage. Tiel or Genessa shells are viable options. Reward: N/A.
After defeating Zmey, players can choose to send their Ova to Marrow Keep for New Game Plus or continue exploring for missed items and secrets.
