Fast travel between Beacons in Mortal Shell 2 is not available from the outset and requires players to progress through the game to unlock the crucial Mether's Breath ability. This feature, a point of contention during the game's beta, allows players to traverse the overworld more efficiently, reducing the need to repeatedly return to the Marrow Keep.
To unlock Fast Travel, players must collect Ova and siphon them within the Marrow Keep's Ovum Siphon chamber. Players begin the game with three Ova, with additional Ova found through gameplay. The quickest method for accumulating Ova in the early hours involves cleansing the Mushroom Village and Mushroom Village Gate Beacons, which yield one and three Ova respectively. Information on navigating these dungeons can be found in separate walkthroughs.
Upon acquiring Mether's Breath, players can interact with any unlocked Beacon and select the 'Mether's Breath' option to Fast Travel. This ability also serves to cleanse walls of corruption, denoted by fragmented, blackened barriers, thereby opening up previously inaccessible parts of the world and aiding in the acquisition of key items such as the Troubadour's Lute.
Mether's Breath offers the convenience of selecting any discovered Beacon for travel, regardless of whether its corresponding map fragment has been found. Mortal Shell 2 utilizes an unusual map system where map pieces are obtained from a character named Ruk. Despite this, Mether's Breath allows travel to all Beacons, even those not yet officially charted on the player's map. Players simply select the desired Beacon from the presented list.
While Fast Travel becomes a primary mode of transport, it is still advisable to return to the Marrow Keep periodically for weapon upgrades, unlocking new Shell memories, and siphoning Gloom from collected Ova. This ensures continued character progression and access to all game features.
