Star Wars Zero Company, the turn-based tactics game set during the Clone Wars, offers deep customization through specializations, weapon types, mods, and equippable items. While these elements allow for diverse playstyles, mastering fundamental mechanics early on is crucial for mission success.
Utilize Overwatch Effectively
Overwatch is a powerful combat tool available to most of your squad members, allowing them to automatically engage enemies that move or act within a designated cone during the enemy's turn. This ability is particularly useful when enemies are behind cover or when facing incoming reinforcements. When setting up Overwatch, pay close attention to the cone's color indicators; blue sections represent areas where your units will fire, while grayed-out zones are blind spots blocked by cover. The accuracy of Overwatch shots decreases with distance, so finding a balance between coverage and hit probability is key. A single character can target up to three enemies with Overwatch if positioned strategically, and it consumes all remaining Action Points (AP) for that turn.
Leverage the Call for Backup System
The Call for Backup system allows a randomly selected squad member each turn to team up with an ally for a back-to-back attack on the same enemy. This coordinated strike is a free action, costs no AP, and, critically, is guaranteed to hit. Both characters must have line of sight on the target for the assist to succeed. Assisted shots can follow up on any attack, including powerful specializations, enabling concentrated damage on vulnerable enemies or finishing off targets that have retreated behind cover. Beyond immediate combat benefits, these assists build bond points between characters. Higher bond levels unlock cross-training, allowing characters to share stat boosts and abilities, which is essential for long-term character progression and unlocking build-defining perks.
Maximize Advantage Resource
Advantage is a squad-wide resource that fuels powerful abilities. Damaging any enemy, whether through direct attacks or utility items, generates Advantage, with a maximum capacity of 10 points. Upgrades are available to start battles with banked Advantage, providing an immediate combat momentum. Advantage points also carry over between stages in multi-part missions. Given how quickly Advantage can be accumulated, players should not hesitate to use it, even after expending all AP for a turn. Abilities powered by Advantage range from direct damage attacks like the Soldier's Rocket Strike to support skills such as the Medic's Morale Boost, all of which can be instrumental in the right situations.
Equip and Utilize Utility Items
Characters can be equipped with Utility items at the Den, which are character-specific and distinct from the shared Advantage resource. Initially, characters have one utility slot, with more becoming available as players progress. Early on, these utilities are often consumables like grenades and medpacs, which require careful timing but can significantly alter a fight's outcome. As the game advances, utility items diversify to include stat-boosting gear that enhances defense, movement, accuracy, critical hit chance, and status effect immunity, alongside secondary weapons like flamethrowers. These items are acquired as mission rewards or purchased from the Black Market. Utilizing these buffs and equipment can provide substantial advantages, so ensuring they are equipped and deployed strategically is vital.
