Acquiring the Tadpole in Subnautica 2 is a crucial early-game step, offering a safe haven from the world's aggressive fauna. However, true mastery of this aquatic vehicle lies in unlocking its various upgrades. These enhancements are divided into two Chassis upgrades and five distinct Upgrade Modules, each requiring diligent exploration and resource gathering, primarily within the Alien Ruins.

Tadpole Chassis Upgrades

The first Chassis upgrade you'll likely encounter is the Tadpole Scout Ray Chassis. Its blueprint is found in the Tadpole Pens, located approximately 700 meters east of the Lifepod. After scanning the chassis itself, which resembles a Tadpole adorned with shark fins within the Moonpool room, you can craft it at your Vehicle Fabricator. This requires 2x Pasteel Ingots, 1x Advanced Wiring Kit, 1x Dedicated Core, and 1x Strong Acid. A fully functional Fabricator and a Processor are necessary for this crafting process. The Scout Ray Chassis improves the Tadpole's speed and maneuverability, which is beneficial for reaching the next upgrade.

To obtain the Tadpole Haul Chassis, players must venture to the Alien Ruins Research Lab, situated 800 to 1000 meters east of the Lifepod. This journey may involve navigating past the Collector Leviathan. The Haul Chassis requires scanning three separate fragments. The first fragment, along with the Tadpole Depth Module MK. 1 data card, can be found within the Needler Nest, about 300 meters southeast of the Research Lab. This nest is a cavernous area with ranged-attacking Needlers, found at a depth of around 300 meters. The second fragment is located east-southeast of the Research Lab, near a cliff edge after passing through a giant alien arch. The third and final fragment rests atop another cliff northeast of the second fragment's location. Once all fragments are scanned, the Tadpole Haul Chassis can be crafted using 4x Titanium Ingots, 3x Strontium, 3x Enameled Glass, and 1x Dedicated Core. This Chassis significantly increases storage capacity, adds extra seats, and provides additional hardpoints for modules, but it is mutually exclusive with the Scout Ray Chassis.

Tadpole Upgrade Modules

Complementing the Chassis upgrades are five Tadpole Upgrade Modules, all discoverable around the Alien Ruins Research Lab. While they can be acquired in any order, the Tadpole Depth Module MK. 1 is recommended first due to its utility in accessing other areas. All these modules are installed in the rear of the Tadpole and require the construction of a Modification Station. The blueprint for the Modification Station is found at the Alien Ruins Research Lab and is crafted using 2x Titanium, 2x Celestine, and 2x Copper.

The Tadpole Depth Module MK. 1, found near Ruby's black box 2 within the Needler Nest, increases the Tadpole's operational depth from 250 meters to 450 meters. It is crafted with 3x Celestine, 2x Enameled Glass, and 1x System Chip.

For increased survivability, the Tadpole Strike Armor module can be found at the Alien Ruins Research Outpost, approximately 200 meters east of the Research Lab. Reaching a depth of 190 meters on a small platform 60 meters further will reveal it. Crafting this module, which reduces damage by 50%, requires 2x Enameled Glass and 2x Strontium.

The Tadpole Engine Efficiency module, located in the first room of the Alien Ruins Research Lab, reduces energy consumption by 15%. This module can be stacked up to four times for a total reduction of 60%. It is crafted using 1x Titanium Ingot, 2x Glass, and 1x System Chip.

To stealthily navigate past enemies, the Tadpole Cavitation Muffler is located beneath an enormous arc structure northeast of the Research Lab, near the Metal Farms, at a depth of 350 to 370 meters. Accessing this location is made easier with the Depth Module MK. 1. Crafting the Cavitation Muffler, which reduces Tadpole noise, requires 3x Titanium and 2x Strontium.

Finally, the Tadpole Photovoltaic Charger can be found within the Cicada Wreck (Therapy Room), 600 meters southeast of the Research Lab. This module recharges the Tadpole's power cell in shallow waters during the day. It requires a Repair Tool to access the wreckage. Crafting the Photovoltaic Charger involves 1x Copper Ingot, 1x Strong Acid, and 1x Troilite.

With these Chassis and Module upgrades, players can significantly enhance their Tadpole, preparing for deeper exploration and encounters with Subnautica 2's formidable creatures.
