Subnautica 2, while still in Early Access, offers a substantial world to explore. Players begin in a relatively calm biome but will need to venture deeper to discover new items and complete missions. While much of the exploration can be self-directed, mission signals provided by NoA, your Noetic Advisor, serve to guide progression.

Initial Survival Gear

Upon starting, players are placed in the treacherous oceans with minimal guidance. Crafting essential items early on is crucial for survival. The Survival Multitool should be prioritized for gathering resources, followed by the Air Bladder for emergency ascents, Basic Fins for increased mobility, a Scanner to discover new blueprints and databank entries, and a Standard Air Tank for extended dives.

Exploring the Opening Biomes

The initial biome is known as the Shallows, with the Coral Gardens nearby. These areas are vital for early progression. The Welcome Center, located southeast of the Lifepod, contains Habitat Builder fragments needed to unlock base construction. Activating the NoA terminal here by powering it with a Basic Battery also reveals intel about missing colonists and prompts a signal to Camp One. The Welcome Center also enables the Biolab, allowing players to acquire their first two Biomods, with Dash and Oxygen Control being recommended.

Near the Welcome Center, players will find the first Angel Comb plant, which grants the Pressure Tolerance Adaptation. A second Angel Comb, located northeast of the Lifepod, provides the Digestion Adaptation, negating the negative effects of consuming various food items. This area also contains the Anita black box and a second Beacon fragment.

The Coral Gardens are rich in resources, particularly Quartz found within Coral Domes. This biome is also where players can find fragments for the Wakemaker, an underwater maneuvering tool. Throughout these initial areas, collecting resources like Titanium, Copper, and Quartz, along with sustenance from fish and Water Slugs, is highly recommended.

Establishing a Base and Venturing North

With the Habitat Builder crafted, players can construct their first base. Before heading north to new mission areas, players may receive a signal for the Chaps black box, located southeast of the Lifepod. This leads to a Colonist Bunker containing blueprints for items like the Repair Tool and Bioreactor, as well as the Floor Locker. Interacting with the Biobed console here provides inventory upgrades.

Camp One and the Old Habitat

Camp One, situated northeast of the Lifepod, is home to more dangerous fauna like Marrowbreachers. Within the camp's wreckage, players can scan for blueprints including the Power Cell Terminal and Scanner Station. Accessing a room beneath the wreckage reveals the Tuba black box, which in turn signals the location of the Quaker black box at the Old Habitat.

The Old Habitat, found north of the Lifepod, offers further insights into the colonists' fate and provides scans for the Sonic Resonator, Bioreactor, and the essential Room blueprint for base building. The Hydroelectric Turbine, a power generation device, can also be found here after locating its fragments near water currents and an abandoned research station.

Cicada Wreck and New Crafting Options

The Lander Garage, located northeast of the Lifepod near the Lead Zone, is a valuable source of Lead and additional scans for the Repair Tool, Scanner Station, and Bioreactor. Using collected fragments, players can craft advanced items like the Battery Terminal, Bioreactor, Hydroelectric Turbine, Power Cell Terminal, Processor, and Sonic Resonator.

Curing Infected Angel Combs and Facing Leviathans

To unlock further Adaptations, players must cure infected Angel Combs. This requires the Sonic Resonator and Processor blueprints. The first infected Angel Comb, west-southwest of the Lifepod, requires the use of the Sonic Resonator to destroy Bloom Cankers, subsequently unlocking the Heat Tolerance Adaptation.

The Cicada Wreck (Canteen) provides scans for the Rebreather and High Capacity Air Tank, as well as the final Repair Tool fragment. This area is also where players may encounter the Great Jaw Leviathan. Venturing inside the Leviathan's carcass yields resources like Lithium and the Portable Oxygen Generator, but caution is advised around its internal structures.

New craftable items include the High Capacity Air Tank, Portable Oxygen Generator, Rebreather, and Repair Tool. Players may also be prompted to retrieve the Wander black box in the Shallows, requiring the Sonic Resonator.

Advanced Mobility and Base Decorations

Reaching the Tadpole Pens, located significantly further east and requiring the Heat Tolerance Adaptation, allows players to scan for Tadpole fragments and the Tadpole Scout Ray Chassis. The Moonpool data card is also found here. While a separate guide suggests obtaining the Tadpole vehicle earlier, natural progression leads players here.

The Tailings Village offers numerous Tailing Furniture Blueprints for base customization and fragments for the Thermal Plant, which converts heat into power. Obtaining Gold is necessary for crafting the Thermal Plant.

Key craftable items from these areas include the Tadpole vehicle core module, Tadpole Scout Ray Chassis, and the Thermal Plant.

The Alien Ruins and Final Adaptations

The journey culminates in the exploration of the Alien Ruins, a dark biome guarded by the formidable Collector Leviathan. Players will need advanced mobility, such as the Tadpole with its Scout Ray Chassis upgrade, to navigate the treacherous area.

Alien Observatory and Research Lab

The Alien Observatory, east of the Lifepod, requires careful navigation over the Collector's territory. While offering few immediate resources, it is a precursor to the Alien Ruins Research Lab. The lab contains the Modification Station, the Engine Efficiency data card, and fragments for the Growbed. The Biobed can also be set as a respawn point here.

Needler Nest and Power Plant

The Needler Nest, southeast of the Alien Ruins, is populated by Needler Mangoes but contains valuable scans for the Tadpole Haul Chassis and Tadpole Depth Module MK 1, along with the Ruby 2 black box. Improved Fins blueprints are also discoverable in this vicinity.

The Power Plant, east of the Research Lab, is crucial for powering alien structures and contains Entangled Power Cell fragments.

Cicada Wreck (Therapy Room) and Metal Farms

The final Adaptation, Axum Vision, requires a Feedback Resonator. The first fragment for this component is found in the Cicada Wreck (Therapy Room). The second fragment, along with rare resources like Troilite and Atacamite, the Tadpole Cavitation Muffler, and the Metal Farm blueprint, can be located in the Metal Farms, a visually distinct area with glowing lights.

The Axum Vision Adaptation is the last currently available in Early Access. Craftable items in this late-game stage include the Entangled Power Cell, Feedback Resonator, Growbed, Improved Fins, and the Metal Farm. While this walkthrough covers the main progression, further exploration and utilization of companion guides for Tadpole upgrades and Biomods are encouraged.
