Subnautica 2's deep oceans are home to several terrifying Leviathans, large predators that can easily end an unprepared player's journey. While many players choose to avoid these gargantuan creatures, this guide outlines their locations for those who wish to find them, whether for research or a thrill.
Collector Leviathan
The Collector Leviathan resides in the deep abyss between the starting area and the Alien Ruins, approximately 800 to 1000 meters east of the player's Lifepod. This aggressive, cephalopod-like predator is known for its intelligent AI, which adapts to player movements to increase its chances of a successful hunt. Its presence is often announced by eerie sounds and sonic blasts. Players can obtain the Sonic Echo biomod by using a Bioscanner on the creature. Encounters are best managed from within a vehicle like the Tadpole, as the Leviathan is known to consume players swimming freely.
Shiver Leviathan
To find the Shiver Leviathan, players can head towards the World Tree visible from the Lifepod. Approximately 500 meters northeast of the starting area, a red wall marks the boundary of the Early Access zone. Beyond this point lies the Void, inhabited by one or more Shiver Leviathans. These winged creatures act as guardians of the outer seas, preventing players from reaching the World Tree. They are known to hunt players relentlessly, and their aerial capabilities mean that using the Air Bladder will not provide safety.
Great Jaw Leviathan
Located 310 meters south of the Lifepod at a depth of around 40 meters, the Great Jaw Leviathan is an enormous clam-like organism. Its name derives from its immense appearance. The interior of the Great Jaw is a rich source of resources, including Lithium. Accessing these resources is perilous; the inner sanctum is protected by fragile purple tendrils. Breaking even one of these tendrils alerts the Great Jaw, which will then attempt to crush the player. Players with full health may survive an initial clamp, and skillful evasion might allow one to wait for the creature's eyes to close again.
Deepwing Brooder Leviathan
The Deepwing Brooder Leviathans are the most elusive and, fortunately, the most docile of the Leviathans. They appear in small groups in open water areas, making them difficult to spot. Initial scouting near the cliff edges by the Old Habitat, about 350 to 400 meters north of the Lifepod, proved unsuccessful. They were eventually found in the abyss between the starting area and the Alien Ruins, sharing territory with the Collector Leviathan. Players can attempt a quick scan with their Scanner if they dare. These Leviathans also patrol a route around the Alien Ruins, requiring patience to observe.
