Early in Subnautica 2, players will discover a significant challenge: Digestive Incompatibility. This condition prevents the consumption of local flora and fauna, making it difficult to manage hunger. Fortunately, the game provides a clear path to overcome this limitation through the acquisition of a specific adaptation.

Unlocking the Digestion Adaptation

The process begins within the player's lifepod. First, activate the NOA system, which will eventually trigger a "Missing Colonists" message. Following this, players will receive a message pertaining to an individual named Anita, which will provide a location marker on their HUD. Players must then travel to this marked location, which will lead them to a black box belonging to Anita. This objective marker is conveniently situated near a crucial large, purple plant.

Interacting with Anita's black box will then prompt players to approach the nearby purple plant. When prompted, place your hand into the plant. This action will initiate and grant the digestion adaptation, effectively curing the Digestive Incompatibility.

It is worth noting that the order of operations—interacting with the black box versus the plant first—does not alter the outcome, as the plant was also a key element in the game's prologue related to pressure adaptation.

Consuming Resources

Once the digestion adaptation is acquired, players can safely consume various alien food sources. This includes easily catchable fish such as Halfmoon, Bluemoon, and Harvestmoon, which can be cooked in the Fabricator. Additionally, players can craft an Oily Salad using Fibrous Pulp, a resource that may require a separate guide to locate. With this adaptation, players are no longer hindered from utilizing the planet's resources to maintain their survival.
