In The Blood of Dawnwalker, players are presented with an early-game challenge: confronting Brencis, the chief vampire, during the game's Prologue mission "Bad Blood." While the game design intends for players to be under-leveled and under-equipped for this encounter, making victory seem impossible, it is technically achievable with the character Coen's starting gear.
This feat, described by the developers as a "feat worthy of legends," involves mastering parrying and dodging Brencis' unblockable attacks. These include a distant blood projectile and close-range blood weapon summons. Successfully executing these defensive maneuvers is crucial, as the player's starting sword makes defeating Brencis' significant health bars a lengthy process.
Should a player succeed in defeating Brencis' initial form, a cutscene triggers where Coen forces the vampire lord back. Annoyed, Brencis then teleports Coen to Anachora, the vampiric afterlife, placing the player at the game's final battle location prematurely. This action also unlocks a new region, Greifberg Castle, which is the game's intended climactic arena for Brencis, and grants the Realmwalker Achievement for visiting Anachora.
Following this early teleportation, players must face Brencis' true form: Brencis, Grotesque Ascendant. Even on Story mode, this encounter is exceptionally challenging, as a single attack from this form is sufficient to instantly defeat Coen, even with full health. While some players may manage to defeat Brencis' normal form, overcoming his ascended state at such an early stage is a monumental task, with reports suggesting only a handful of internal developers have achieved it.
Defeating Brencis in the Prologue is believed to trigger one of the game's seven possible endings, potentially the "Folk Hero" ending, which is earned by infiltrating Greifberg Castle to defeat Brencis independently. The exact details of this ending are still being confirmed, but it is expected that streamers will soon provide extensive documentation.
