The A Bulwark Against Darkness quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker offers a significant reward: the full Arbiter's Suit of Armour in its Legendary form. This quest begins with a mysterious letter and culminates in a ritual that bestows powerful protection, making it a worthwhile endeavor for any player seeking to face Brencis's wrath.
Quest Walkthrough
To embark on this quest, players must first achieve a 'Notorious' level of Infamy. This can be accomplished by completing missions that impact Brencis's Boyars, such as Ambrus or Bakir. Once this Infamy level is reached, a chance encounter with a stranger will initiate the quest. The stranger will provide a letter detailing the components required for the Arbiter's Suit of Armour.
After obtaining the letter, players must gather four specific items:
Obtain the Moult of a Large Lizard
Head to the Briar Sloughs bog. The required moult is not found in the Tatzelwurm lair but within a large cave situated directly east of the Muddy Trail shrine. Players will need to defeat the lizards within this cave to acquire the item.
Obtain the Relic of a Saint
There are several ways to acquire this component. One method involves looting the body next to a ladder in the courtyard of St. Tyna's Convent, provided the 'Echoes of Silenced Bells' quest has been completed. This yields the Saint's Tibia.
Alternatively, the Relic of St. Tyna can be found at St. Tyna's Convent. The Relic of St. Tobias can be obtained during the 'Night of Horrors' quest with Lacra, and the Relic of St. Dasius can be purchased from Vicho after completing 'A Study in Crimson'.
Obtain a bundle of Silk Threads
To obtain Silk Threads efficiently, players should focus on the 'Come Hither' quest, located south of Svartrau. Completing this mission and defeating the Murohn within its lair will provide the Silk Threads for free.
An alternative is the 'Pearly and Precious' Sanzhana quest, but this will cost approximately 6,000 denarii to purchase the threads.
Obtain a Flask of Quicksilver
This final component is located within Aurelius's Tower, found in the far south of the map beyond The Silts. After navigating through mini-boss encounters and completing the 'Home Sweet Home' quest, players can freely explore the tower. The Flask of Quicksilver can be found on the top floor, detectable using Focus Mode on the edge of a desk.
Crafting the Armour and Final Ritual
Once all four components are gathered, players must visit the Uriash Hermit blacksmith, typically found in the northwest of the map and accessible via the Uriash Hermitage shrine. The blacksmith will accept the components one by one to forge the Arbiter's Suit of Armour.
The final step involves a ritual to imbue the armour with its Legendary properties. The Uriash blacksmith will initiate this process, during which players must defend against a pack of wolves and a formidable Ursine Apparition. Upon defeating the apparition, the Arbiter's Suit of Armour will be granted in its fully enhanced, Legendary form.
