The "Forge It Anew" quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker requires players to find three sword shards and an Uriashi blacksmith to reforge the Broken Sword of St. Mihai into the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai, a legendary greatsword. This quest, which is tied to the "Arbiter's Blade" achievement, does not provide map markers for its objectives, making it a challenging endeavor without guidance.
To initiate "Forge It Anew," players must either discover a sword shard organically or complete the "A Monk and a Saint" quest. The latter can be obtained by investigating the Svartrau Cathedral's courtyard or by finishing "Echoes of Silenced Bells."
Once the Broken Sword of St. Mihai is acquired, "Forge It Anew" progresses through three sub-quests: "Do Not Disturb," "Executive Order," and "Hostile Takeover." These can be tackled in any order. The quest also involves finding an Uriashi blacksmith and ultimately reforging the sword. The entire questline consumes approximately 12 time segments.
Sword Shard Locations
The first sword shard can be found in Maragir Wealds, located in the northeastern sector of Vale Sangora. Players should head northwest of the Maragir Wealds Watchtower to a large, slanted rock to trigger the "Forge It Anew: Do Not Disturb" sub-quest. Following a blood trail in focus mode will lead to a cave inhabited by kobolds. Inside, players will find the first sword shard at the rear of the cave. A mural within this cave will also reveal the locations of the remaining two shards on the player's map.
The second sword shard is situated in St. Tyna's Grove, east of Svartrau City, and southeast of the Crossroads Inn. After following a road into a kobold den, players will discover a letter that mentions the Uriashi blacksmith. The shard itself has been taken by soldiers who subsequently massacred the kobolds. To retrieve it, players must clear a soldiers' camp located in the swamp southwest of the den, south of Tantari. The shard is found within a decorated tent.
The third and final sword shard is located in Rockfalls, west of Svartrau City, on the plains east of Westridge Outpost. An alternative approach is to start from the Giant's Paws shrine and proceed through the forest. Within a den, players must defeat a miniboss named Munch-Munch. After its defeat, the final sword shard can be collected from a nest at the back of the den.
Locating the Uriashi Blacksmith and Reforging the Sword
The whereabouts of the Uriashi blacksmith can be discovered by reading the letter found on a soldier's corpse during the "Executive Order" sub-quest. Alternatively, players can find the Uriashi village, assist The Elder, and then inquire about the blacksmith, though this can be a time-consuming process.
For those who wish to proceed directly, the Uriashi blacksmith's hideout is in the northwestern section of Briar Sloughs. Upon meeting her, players should state their intention to kill Brencis to secure her assistance.
With the three sword shards in hand, the Uriashi blacksmith will transform the Broken Sword of St. Mihai into its Restored, epic-quality version. The quest continues with tempering the sword to achieve legendary status. This requires entering a cave in the northwest and interacting with red veins to progress. Players must then defeat an undead horde in a pit below before proceeding to the next room.
In the final chamber, players will spend three time segments performing a ritual to temper the sword. This involves battling multiple waves of undead enemies. Upon their defeat, Coen will obtain the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai, completing the "Forge It Anew" quest and unlocking the "Arbiter's Blade" achievement.
