The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Escape Xanthe's Trap

The finale of The Blood of Dawnwalker features a challenging trap set by Xanthe, characterized by infinitely looping rooms within Griefberg Castle. This puzzle impedes Coen's progress and can be a frustrating obstacle for players, particularly if they have previously antagonized Xanthe.

Escaping Xanthe's Trap

To successfully navigate Xanthe's trap, players must pay close attention to the environment within the large library room where combat encounters occur. The key to escaping lies in identifying specific banners displayed near the doorways. Players should search for triangular red banners adorned with an eye symbol from which tentacles extend. Entering the doorway marked by these specific banners is the correct path forward.

Coen must pass through the correct banner doorway a total of three times. With each successful passage, the layout of the room may shift slightly, and the banners' positions can change. In some instances, only a single correct banner may be present. Coen's dialogue will also evolve after each successful transition, providing an indication that the player is progressing correctly through the puzzle.

Each time the puzzle room resets, players can expect to face waves of enemies, including wraiths and canine-like devils. The number of enemies typically increases with each cycle of the trap, so persistence in combat is necessary to overcome these encounters.

Impact of Sparing Xanthe

Players can bypass Xanthe's trap entirely by making specific choices earlier in the game. If Xanthe is spared during her quest, 'The Cycle of Love,' or if she is spared after being encountered and defeated in the Svartrau Cathedral, the trap will not be active when Coen infiltrates Griefberg Castle. Furthermore, her Blood Guards will also be absent from this area, simplifying the infiltration.

This approach offers a strategic advantage, potentially fostering an ally within Brencis's domain. For those seeking to avoid the puzzle and its associated combat, ensuring Xanthe's survival is the recommended course of action.
