The Broken Sword of St. Mihai is an early-game item in The Blood of Dawnwalker that players will seek out as part of the main quest, specifically after being directed to explore the Svartrau Cathedral and its depths. Acquiring this weapon requires a series of interactions and investigations.
To begin, follow the 'A Monk and a Saint' main quest. This will lead you to find Albertus in the Middens, located west of Svartrau's main city. Once in the Middens, use Focus Mode to examine the writings on the walls, which will guide you to Albertus's hut. Inside, engage Albertus in conversation and ask about St. Mihai's Silver Sword. You will then need to provide specific written responses: 'Abelard the Sorrowful,' 'Svartrau plaza,' '...his penance, the place of his redemption,' '...never once set foot inside it,' and finally, 'St. Mihai, a great warrior, arrived at Vale Sangora.'
After speaking with Albertus, your next objective is to visit Svartrau Cathedral, but ensure it is daytime. Upon speaking with Father Florin, confirm his statement by replying 'That's right' and allow him to hear your confession. Following the confession, utilize Focus Mode to question the townsfolk highlighted in orange within the cathedral.
These interactions will reveal several leads. Speak to the Deacon to offer assistance in finding the caretaker. Wait for a Believer to finish praying and inquire about the crypt, which will direct you toward the treasury. Approach an Acolyte and offer help; this grants access to a small room containing loot and the Treasury Key within a ledger.
Exit the Cathedral and enter the Cathedral Complex. Access the Treasury using the key and inspect the bookshelf inside. Moving this bookshelf will reveal a hidden room. Here, you will find the Golden Chalice, which displays a sigil associated with St. Mihai. Note this sigil for later use. A hatch in this room leads to the basement, where further clues await. Inspecting the altar in the basement will yield a Stone Key. Before leaving the Treasury, be sure to loot the upstairs area for additional clues and a Vial of Xanthe's Blood.
With these items in hand, track the 'help the deacon find the caretaker' objective, which initiates the 'A Dubious Gift' side quest at the nearby almshouse. Speak with a nun about the caretaker and offer your help in exchange for information. Then, proceed upstairs to speak with Stefan. Offer to clean his wound. If you previously saved the miller, Mort, you can also speak with him and his wife here.
The next step involves investigating the abandoned wing of the almshouse. Locate a bookshelf with scratch marks beneath it and move it to uncover a hidden room. Proceed deeper into the almshouse, following a trail of blood, to confront the Almhouse Monstrosity. Defeat this enemy to obtain the Caretaker's Key from its corpse.
Return to the deacon and inform him of the caretaker's fate. This action will pass two time segments, and the deacon will then provide the Library Key. Head to the library and locate the chronicle. The correct bookshelf, which will glow orange in Focus Mode, is found upstairs and to the left. Use the adjacent pulpit to inspect the book, which advances time by one segment.
Your next task is to find St. Mihai's memorial statue in the courtyard. Examine the graves until you find one bearing a sigil that matches the one seen on the Golden Chalice earlier, resembling a set of scales. Alternatively, the correct memorial is the fourth one along, to the right of the grave marked with a large stone crucifix.
Following the identification of the correct memorial, Coen will open St. Mihai's grave, allowing entry into the crypt below. At the bottom of the crypt, break the suspicious wall from which moaning emanates. This action will trigger a confrontation with the corpse of Mihai himself. Defeating Mihai is necessary to claim his sword.
Upon defeating the Dawnwalker, you will obtain the Broken Sword of St. Mihai. Loot the suspicious wall from which Mihai emerged to find the sheath and Mihai's Notes. The Broken Sword of St. Mihai, along with any found Sword Shards, can then be taken to the Uriashi Blacksmith. She can forge these into a complete sword, provided you have all three sword shards. The blacksmith will then prompt you to perform a ritual to imbue the sword with additional power. For further details on acquiring all sword shards and completing the sword, a separate guide is available.
