Psychic-type Pokémon represent one of the 18 distinct types in Pokémon Go, each with unique strengths and weaknesses. Some Psychic-types stand out for their exceptional power, making them valuable assets for trainers.
Understanding the Psychic Type
The Psychic type is strong against Fighting and Psychic Pokémon and weak against Bug, Dark, and Ghost types. Conversely, it resists Fighting and Psychic attacks and is vulnerable to Bug, Dark, and Ghost types. Windy weather boosts Psychic-type attacks.
Best Legendary Psychic-Type Pokémon
Mewtwo
Mewtwo, a Psychic/Ice-type, excels in Master League and raids. Its impressive stats and powerful moves, including the legacy charged moves Psystrike and Shadow Ball, make it a top-tier choice. While Armored Mewtwo exists, it is significantly less capable.
Dusk Mane Necrozma
Dusk Mane Necrozma, a Psychic/Steel-type, is also a powerhouse in both Master League and raids. Its dual typing provides numerous resistances, including double resistances to Poison and Psychic. Its recommended moveset often includes Shadow Claw and Dark Pulse for coverage, though its signature Steel-type move is potent.
Dawn Wings Necrozma
Dawn Wings Necrozma, a Psychic/Ghost-type, is exceptionally strong in the Master League meta and serves as an excellent Ghost-type attacker. Its signature move, Moongeist Beam, is formidable. For raids, swapping its Fast move to Psycho Cut can optimize its performance as a Psychic-type attacker.
Lunala
Lunala, another Psychic/Ghost-type, is a very powerful Pokémon that performs well in raids. While not quite as dominant as Dawn Wings Necrozma, Lunala offers better consistency and a strong moveset for Master League, making it a solid generalist option.
Latios
Latios, a Dragon/Psychic-type, is a decent choice for Master League with its recommended moveset. While it can function as a raid attacker, other Pokémon like Mewtwo or Mega Evolved forms are often more effective. Its legacy charged move, Luster Purge, offers a significant Psychic-type attack with a chance to lower the opponent's defense.
Best Non-Legendary Psychic-Type Pokémon
While Legendary Pokémon often possess superior stats, some non-Legendary and pseudo-Legendary Pokémon can compete effectively. These are generally more cost-effective to power up.
Metagross
Metagross, a Steel/Psychic-type, is a formidable Pokémon, especially in its Mega Evolved form. Even its regular form is a strong contender. While often utilized as a Steel-type attacker, its Psychic-type capabilities should not be overlooked. In Master League, it often uses a different moveset focused on its Steel typing and resistances.
Espeon
Espeon, a pure Psychic-type, is a budget-friendly option and the strongest Eeveelution by attack. It boasts respectable stats and a solid moveset, making it a good choice for lower-tier raids, particularly for newer players. However, it functions as a glass cannon, prioritizing damage output over durability.
Gardevoir
Gardevoir, a Psychic/Fairy-type, shines as a Fairy-type attacker and is also a capable Psychic-type. Its Mega Evolved form is particularly powerful for both typings. As a non-Legendary, it is more accessible to power up than many Legendaries, making it a valuable Pokémon to invest in for its Mega Evolution potential.
Alakazam
Regular Alakazam, a pure Psychic-type, is considered average. However, its Mega Evolved form is second only to Mega Mewtwo as a Psychic-type attacker. Trainers are encouraged to catch and power up strong Abra individuals for the significant boost provided by Mega Alakazam.
Gallade
Gallade, a Psychic/Fighting-type, sees some use in Great League. While its Mega Evolution is less potent than Gardevoir's, it remains a strong Fighting-type Mega. It offers utility as a Psychic/Fighting-type Pokémon and is worth powering up if a high-IV specimen is found.
