Collecting new Familiars is a central mechanic in Witchspire, offering creatures that can assist in combat or speed up crafting processes. For instance, Rockling Familiars can accelerate crafting, Chirilis can hasten Furnaces, and initial or acquired Familiars can be recruited for battles.

Your journey in Witchspire begins with a choice of one of four Familiars: Quol, Bril, Locto, or Fien. While you can only have one active Familiar at a time, you can equip up to three, encouraging the acquisition of more allies.

A new Familiar can be obtained each time a creature is slain. This mechanic applies to creatures such as Taileafs, Rocklings, and Chirilis, but not to standard enemy mobs like Froblins or Al'uunians. Upon defeating a creature, there is a chance its spirit will linger. Interacting with this lingering spirit allows you to bond with it, adding the Familiar to your inventory.

To equip a Familiar, return to the nearest Hearth and open your inventory via the 'tab' key. Here, you can assign Familiars from your inventory to available slots. It is also recommended to upgrade Familiar skills after leveling up. This can be done by double-clicking an equipped Familiar to access its skill tree and unlock or enhance its abilities. Familiars come in different types and rarities. Base Variants are standard Familiars, Shifties are color-swap variations akin to Pokémon's Shinies, and Celestial variants are ultra-rare, sparkling versions. Rarities range from Common to Legendary, with higher rarities offering passive bonuses such as increased health or attack power.

To improve your chances of acquiring new Familiars, you can use Incense. This item can be found in chests, dropped by bosses, or crafted at a Witchcraft Circle. Using Incense before defeating a target creature temporarily boosts the likelihood of its spirit lingering.
